According to police, officers responded to the intersection of Longmore and Southern over a report of an infant who was not breathing.

"Upon arrival, officers found the infant in respiratory distress. Mesa Fire and Medical personnel transported the baby to a nearby hospital, where, on the morning of July 29th, the infant sadly passed away," read a portion of the statement.

Investigators said medical staff noted the baby had visible bruising, as well as internal injuries.
"Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined that the injuries were inflicted by 19-year-old Arnold Barney during an incident in which he was reportedly unable to calm the crying infant," investigators wrote.

Court documents reveal the disturbing details: Barney told investigators he was home alone with his son while the child's mother was at a nearby grocery store. He admitted to the police that he had awakened from a nap to the baby crying. Frustrated, he confessed to striking Romeo in the face with an open hand — not once, but six times — in an attempt to make the infant stop crying.

Barney reportedly apologized for killing his child in an interview with Mesa police officers and acknowledged that he knew his actions were wrong.
Barney made his initial court appearance on Wednesday morning, where he began to sob as the judge told him that he was facing a first-degree murder charge. He is currently being held in the Maricopa County Jail on a $1 million secured appearance bond.

Arnold is sobbing because he knows his cellmate will do more than slap him arounf if he gets shit on their dick.
