Michael S. Geiger has been ruled incompetent to stand trial in the brutal rape and murder of a 2-year-old girl that rocked Enid last year.
In a hearing before Garfield County District Judge Tom Newby, Geiger was found:

• To be suffering from a delusional disorder.

• Unable to appreciate the nature of the charges against him.

• Unable to rationally assist his attorneys in his defense.
Newby on Nov. 1, 2023, ordered Oklahoma Forensic Center in Vinita to develop a treatment plan to restore Geiger’s competency.
The order states that “restoration of competency within a reasonable time is likely if the Defendant is provided with a court of treatment, therapy, or training.”

It further states that inpatient treatment “is the only competency restoration protocol likely to help the Defendant achieve competence” and that Geiger objects to the use of psychotropic medications, which are “prescribed to stabilize or improve mood, mental status, or behavior.”
Officials with Oklahoma Forensic Center are required to provide the court and defense and prosecution attorneys with periodic updates on Geiger’s status. If officials at the center determine Geiger is competent they are required to provide the court with a pos-evaluation competency report within 30 days.
In the hearing last week, both the defense and prosecution “stipulate to the report previously provided” by Dr. Scott Orth, giving his opinions after a court-ordered competency evaluation by Oklahoma Department of Mental Health.

Geiger, 52, is facing charges of first-degree murder, first-degree rape and kidnapping in the death of 2-year-old Caliyah Guyton on April 28, 2022.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. In a bill of particulars filed in November 2022, prosecutors stated they would seek the death penalty as a result of Geiger being previously convicted of a felony involving the use or threat of violence to a person; that the murder was especially heinous, atrocious or cruel; and that there exists a probability that Geiger would commit criminal acts of violence that would constitute a threat to society.
