A Clark County grand jury approved murder charges for the parents of a 4-month-old boy who died just after Christmas.
Clark County deputies and medics were called to a home about a child’s illness in December 2023, but deputies said this long investigation showed something more sinister. They arrested the mother and father, 25-year-old Landan Jennings and 21-year-old Angel Seiker, who relatives insist are innocent.
“Nobody’s abusing him. Nobody was abusing him,” Amy Owens, Jennings’ mother and the child’s grandmother, said.

Both Jennings and Seiker have been charged with murder, felonious assault, endangering children, and permitting child abuse.

“Not just my mind, we all know. Everybody knows them, knows they wouldn’t do that,” Owens said.
Lt. Kris Shultz, Detective Lieutenant for the Clark County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation looked at the presenting problems the child was rushed to the children’s hospital with and the underlying concerns uncovered by doctors and then the coroners and forensic pathologists.

As shown on News Center 7 at 5:00, Mike Campbell asked Shultz if investigators believed there was anything accidental about the infant’s death. He said “No.”

“This points to an acute isolated situation taking place as part of a pattern of conduct over a period of time,” Shultz said.

He told News Center 7 that it is possible that the injuries they discovered happened at the couple’s apartment in Fairborn, as well as other possible locations.
The child’s grandmother just can’t believe her son and his girlfriend would hurt a child they loved.

“I just lost my 16-year-old son two years ago,” Owens said. “I can’t lose my second son.”

The parents of a child that died in December 2023 have pled guilty to permitting child abuse as they face criminal disposition on March 25, according to Clark County court records.

Landan Jennings and Angel Seiker were arrested nine months after their child, Braxton Jennings, died. Deputies spent that time investigating the child’s death.
Both Jennings and Seiker pleaded guilty to permitting child abuse, which is a felony, in the past month. They are also facing charges of murder, felonious assault and endangering children.
“Nobody’s abusing him. Nobody was abusing him,” Amy Owens, Jennings’ mother and the child’s grandmother, said after the couple’s arrest in 2024.

A 25-year-old father in Ohio will spend more than a decade behind bars for his role in killing his 4-month-old son who died after months of continuous abuse.
Clark County Common Pleas Judge Douglas M. Rastatter on Tuesday ordered Landan Jennings to serve the maximum sentence of up to 16 1/2 years in a state correctional facility for the horrific 2023 slaying of his young son, court records reviewed by Law&Crime show. According to court documents, Landan in February reached a deal with the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office in which he agreed to plead guilty to one count of permitting child abuse. In exchange for his plea, the remaining charges against him were dropped, including two counts of murder, one count of felonious assault, and one count of endangering children.
The victim’s mother, Angel Seiker, was also charged in connection with her son’s death. She pleaded guilty to the same charge as Jennings and is scheduled to be sentenced at a later date.
Prior to handing down the sentence, Rastatter addressed Jennings directly and explained why he felt the maximum sentence was appropriate.

“Really the only thing this child experienced in this world was pain and suffering. I cannot in good conscience show you any mercy or any leniency when your son didn’t get any of that,” he said, according to courtroom footage posted by Dayton, Ohio CBS affiliate WHIO. “This child was abused continuously over the months before his death.”

Clark County Common Pleas Judge Rastatter sentenced 21-year-old Angel Seiker to 11 to 16.5 years behind bars Wednesday morning.
The child’s autopsy showed fractures in both legs, broken ribs, and head injuries.

“He lived for four months and knew nothing but pain and suffering,” Rastatter said.
Seiker told the judge she would ask Jennings about their son’s injuries, but never sought out medical help.
“I would ask him about the bruises, and he would just tell me some story and I would believe that story,” Seiker said.
Rastatter said he did not believe her story or her attorney’s claims that Seiker was a victim of abuse herself.

“There was nobody there to try to make him better, so he just suffered. He just allowed him to suffer, day after day after day, week after week, month after month, he just suffered. And so not only did you allow it, you didn’t do anything to try to help him after the fact,” Rastatter said.

These two deserved much harsher sentences for what Braxton had to endure.
