Anthony Fuerte, 27, was arrested by Spokane County deputies on Thursday. He was found covered in blood. Deputies say he was trying to steal cars in North Spokane. Witnesses helped detain him until deputies could take him into custody. At that point, they were unaware of the murder. He was taken to jail on unrelated charges.

The woman's body was found Friday morning in a room at the Rodeway Inn. It was rented on Wednesday. Documents state officers found the man whose name was on the room's paperwork. They say that man told them he rented it for Fuerte and Fuerte's friend only known as 'Speedy.'

It was cleaning staff at the Rodeway Inn who discovered the bloody scene. Records indicate an employee saw blood on the door handle of the room and used a master key to get inside. She immediately saw the victim's lifeless body, nude from the waist down and called 911.

Responding officers found a trail of blood leading to where Fuerte was arrested on Thursday.
Inside the room, officers found blood spatter, a broken lamp and a syringe. The victim had multiple stab wounds to her chest, and according to court documents, her 'head was nearly decapitated ... with what appears to be a significant attempt with a sharp weapon to remove the head.' They described the attack as 'extremely severe.'

Records show a tentative ID of the victim was made, but the medical examiner will make the official confirmation.

SPD's second suspect, 32-year-old Lionel White, was identified as the other man associated with the crime scene. An employee told police she saw him exit the room. When officers arrested him, they found he had a 'tool with a pointed shaft several inches long.' He was also carrying drugs.

Documents state White, who goes by 'Speedy,' told detectives he had been with Fuerte at the hotel. He told them Fuerte's 'girl' joined them. White admitted to leaving bloody towels outside the room but denied hurting the victim or helping clean up the bloody scene. He said he left the room when the couple began arguing. He claimed he only later learned the woman was dead.

A motive for the crime is not known. Both men have criminal histories and remain in the Spokane County jail on multiple charges, including second degree murder.

He looks the part.

He’s a douchebag, as evidenced by his picture.

Douchebags murder crack/meth-whores in motels. That’s common knowledge.

I'm not saying she was, but even if she was a crack/meth whore its not a reason to murder her. As it goes, though, her photos (like the one above) is no guarantee she didn't have a dark side, no matter how pretty. There was a reason for her to be in the same motel room with two shitbags for a few days and I would like to know why.

A judge sentenced Anthony Fuerte to 30 years in prison for the murder of Makayla Young, 24, at a Spokane motel in February 2020.

Fuerte plead guilty to first-degree murder as part of a plea deal. The sentencing is exactly what was recommended in the deal.
Fuerte apologized to Young's family in court.

"I'm sorry for taking someone so special away from the people that love her," Fuerte said. "I feel awful for what I've done. There's not a day that goes by and think about what I did. I'm sorry for the hurt and the pain that I caused because I looked at the pictures on the shirts that you wear, I can't imagine the pain that you feel. And I know sorry is not enough. I was just on drugs. And I never imagined I could have done something like this. I'm sorry for taking her away from you."
Fuerte's attorney gave a presentation to the judge explaining his difficult childhood. His mother and step father were drug addicts who had a history of domestic violence. The attorney claimed both Fuerte and Makayla used drugs the night of her death.
"Admittedly what he did to Makayla Young in February of 2020 was horrible and unforgivable," the attorney said. "There is no justification. There is no excuse to be is not here to make any excuses. But the question people keep asking is why? Why did this happen? It happened because of drugs, methamphetamine and heroin specifically."
Makayla Young, 24, was found dead on Feb. 28, 2020 from multiple stab wounds and the Spokane County Medical Examiner later ruled her manner of death as homicide. Two men, Fuerte and Lionel White, were charged in relation to Young's death.

Fuerte, who was in a romantic relationship with Young, faced murder and robbery charges in connection with her death and took a plea deal in the case.
Young’s body was discovered inside of the hotel room at about 10:50 a.m. on Feb. 28. She had been stabbed multiple times and there was blood "sprayed around the room," court records say. It appeared as if someone had attempted to sever her head from her body.

Makayla had two miscarriages, and that devastated her. The once-happy-go-lucky girl turned gloomy and frustrated. It hurt everyone around her to see her like that.
It took Makayla years to get out of that pain, only to be caught in another one.
In 2020, Makayla finally started dating 27-year-old Anthony Fuerte. Upon first glance, Anthony seemed like a kind, caring guy who would give Makayla the life she deserved.
However, as people got to know him, they saw how much of a troubled man Anthony was.

Anthony Fuerte

Anthony was born to parents who didn’t know what they were doing. They were heavily influenced by drugs, which affected his mental health severely. He had an IQ of about 50, and he couldn’t get along with most people.
Anthony got into drugs and alcohol in school. He was also expelled from school for the same reason. And a few years later, he was convicted of armed robbery and sent to prison for seven years.
While it’s unclear if Makayla and her loved ones knew about Anthony’s troubled past, they seemed happy with him. To them, Anthony was genuine, kind, and charming.
Of course, all that would change.

The beginning of the end

On February 6, 2020, Makayla and Anthony went out with a friend, Joshua Thomas.
A police officer pulled them over for a random check. And incidentally, both Joshua and Anthony had drugs on them. The officer arrested them, and they had to spend a couple of weeks in jail before being released.
After this incident, the relationship between Anthony and Makayla changed.
Anthony, for some reason, believed that Makayla had set up the raid and sent him to prison.
Makayla obviously did not do that, but he didn’t believe her. She was even terrified that Anthony might harm her. He kept threatening her with his connections in the ‘gang.’
So, when Anthony asked Makayla to meet him, she was nervous.
Really really nervous.

7–11 meetup

Makayla did not want to meet Anthony alone or in a private place. So, she requested a friend to accompany her to a nearby 7–11, where she would meet him in public.
Anthony apparently tried to convince her to move to Portland.
But Makayla’s friend did not like the situation. She took Makayla away and convinced her not to do something stupid. She also requested Makayla not to meet Anthony again.
Of course, that was not how things turned out.

Roadside motel — the place that changed everything

After meeting Makayla and her friend, the men booked a room in a motel in Spokane. It seemed like Anthony did not want to leave the town without Makayla.
Anthony kept pestering Makayla to meet him. While the messages started lovey-dovey, they soon turned commanding and cold. He demanded Makayla meet him immediately.
Now, Makayla did not have a good feeling about this meeting. But Anthony still had a powerful influence on her, and she was very forgiving. He convinced her to meet him at the motel parking lot.
And that was when things started going south quickly.

Help me, please!

According to the surveillance footage from the motel, things were cordial between Makayla and Anthony. The two met at the parking lot, greeted each other, and went to the room holding hands.
However, the couple didn’t demonstrate that warmth inside the room.
Makayla posted a Snapchat story asking for a ride from the motel. Unfortunately, it was pretty late, and none of her friends saw the post.
She never got that ride.

Bloody carjacker

That afternoon, several people called 911 about a man covered with blood trying to carjack multiple people.
The man was Anthony.
Anthony had initially tried to steal a car from a car dealership, but when that didn’t happen, he started threatening people and trying to carjack them.
After multiple attempts, he finally got a car, but the dealership employees were already on him. They stopped him from escaping away and called the police.
When the police picked up Anthony, he was covered with scratch marks and minor injuries. He also behaved erratically, and the police took him to the hospital.

Finding Makayla

The next day, on February 28, 2020, a housekeeper entered Anthony’s room to clean it.
She found bloody handprints on the doorknob and the lifeless, nude body of Makayla on the bed. With injuries all over her body, Makayla was stabbed many times.
The housekeeper immediately called 911, and the investigation began.

Crime scene

The police found the crime scene a complete mess, with almost everything in that room being broken or scattered. The officers found bloody pillows, bloody needles, bloody walls, and broken lamps.
It looked like there was a fierce struggle there.
The police also found a bloody trail that led them to where they arrested Anthony, covered in blood.
But that bloody path alone wasn’t enough. The police needed more evidence.

Autopsy report

Makayla’s autopsy report listed that she died from stab wounds to her upper chest and neck, nearly decapitating her. Plus, she had been stabbed over 120 times.
But she didn’t go without giving a fierce fight.
The autopsy also mentioned that Makayla’s fingernails were ripped off from trying to hurt her murderer.

Finding Anthony’s partner

The housekeeper who found Makayla’s body told the police that she had seen Anthony with another guy. She didn’t know who that person was.
The police checked the motel records and found that the room was booked under Chadd Benefield. And when they reached out to this Chad, he told them he rented a motel room for someone nicknamed Speedy. He didn’t know the actual name.
But when the police showed him the security footage from the motel, he identified Speedy as Lionel White, Anthony’s armed friend.

Spilling the beans

The police tracked and arrested Lionel from another motel. They found a sharply pointed shaft that might be the murder weapon.
Lionel waived his right to a lawyer and went straight into talking mode.
He told the police that Makayla, Anthony, and he had taken drugs that night before the couple started arguing. To give them some privacy, he claimed to have left the room.
He maintained he didn’t know what happened in that room after that.
But the police didn’t believe his story and arrested him for the second-degree murder of Makayla Young and possession of drugs.
The officers also charged Anthony with the second-degree murder of Makayla, along with his carjacking charges.

Trial
The trial went well over a year, with Makayla’s grief-stricken family attending every hearing. The family had to watch Anthony and Lionel laughing and cracking jokes while waiting for their daughter’s justice.
It was absolutely heartbreaking to see those murderers not show remorse. And to make things worse, the two men’s attorneys came up with one excuse after another to push the trial hearings.
In the end, Anthony acceptedthe plea deal, and he was charged with aggravated murder. The judge sentenced him to 30 years in prison, followed by 36 months of community service.
And for Lionel, though he pled guilty, was released on time served. He’s a free man and could live life as he seems fit.
Makayla’s family feels insulted by Anthony’s apology and the sentences. Their daughter had lost her life for no reason, and the men responsible for her death are free.

Anthony had attributed his aggressive behavior to his upbringing and a mixture of drugs. He made it sound like his unreasonable anger and choices had nothing to do with his actions.

Not to forget his carefree actions in the court. Both Anthony and Lionel showed zero guilt. They were enjoying the hearings, laughing, and cracking jokes.

But since no one knew what happened in that room that night, the police, the court, and Makayla’s family had to live with their meek reasonings.
Anthony will be released in his 50s and will still have time to enjoy life when poor Makayla tragically lost everything at 24.
