I thanked you for your original post, WTB. Perfectly reasonable question. I do spend time ruminating on what goes on here--and what I do here--trying to examine it from different angles. When it comes to some perps, there's not enough info out there for me to feel confident about the case, and so I stay away from their MySpaces.

Nope. It's strictly forbidden to contact someone or family even if they are posted. You will get band if mods or Mike finds out.
I have seen it happen, but it's frowned apon there.
We bash them till the sun goes down in the threads, and if they end up there (murderers etc.) they are fair game. But family members and such are treated with respect. Unless they attack first.

I can respect that, but not the fact that this person is not convicted. If it was someone who was convicted, or there was no reasonable doubt I might think different. Like I said, it depends on the case.
If we held our breath waiting on each fucktard on this site to get convicted we would all have expired before getting an opportunity to lash them.

They stick them in hand cuffs on the simple basis that they could have commited the crime.
I could call the cops on my neighbor and tell them he raped me and he would be hauled off for the safety of others on the basis of my word. Probable cause. Probable cause means a situation is plausable. It may have happened. Just like reasonable doubt. Plus if he is really guilty, if they don't arrest him it may give him the chance to run. And not to mention they need to question you and if they deem fit, they need to arrest you to charge you.
And probable cause makes you guilty now? That is your basis for my way of thinking is flawed? How many people are arrested in this country and then found innocent? TONS. At least they get a trial. According to your way of thinking, we should just throw out the whole pesky trial and go with guilty if they are simply arrested. There has to be a notion of probable cause in order to be arrested, not convicted. The flight risk is based on previous record and reputation. If there is no record, there is no flight risk in the eyes of the law, and they let them go on their own recog unless it is a serious crime and the proof is overwhelming.
There shouldn't be people in jail without probable cause but there is. You can thank Bush and Texas for that. :lol5:
I am all too familiar with Texas law, and I see you are from LA. I am sure you have seen some things being from the south that are unjust and unfair. I am not saying things are the way they should be at all. It should be innocent until proven guilty, but who are we to judge who is guilty or innocent? In this case we are just as bad as the justice system that fails people.

She said the action of contacting people was lame and come on, you may like the word, but "lynch mob" is about the closest description you can get. I have used it as well with the people that went after Lori Drew.
I do not condone contacting people in our stories, nor do I ever do that unless they contact me first. Mostly because, as beef was trying to convey, we have seen a few times when our members lit up torches and it turned out that the person being hunted turned out to be not so guilty. Before I personally go on any type of crusade against anyone here, I like my proof 100 percent.

We are supposed to be here for the victims, at the expense of the accused, not the other way around. It does not always work out that way, but to not care if a victim or innocent person got skewered for entertainment bothers me, and I hope that the majority of people do not feel this way.
Well, in all honesty, we have deemed that OUR job. But we do this by reporting on crimes reported by the news. I do not contact them. I would never condone following anyone around to their Myspace pages to leave nasty comments or bait them. See, if the news is wrong, I can easily go back and update the story. I don't ever want to go back and have to update a slew of nasty comments I made. My motto is that if by the facts I am given, is there any chance that the accused could be innocent? If so, I do not make assumptions. We have enough people who deserve scorn and ridicule...use the comment feature for the story to do so.
Personally? If I were the victim of an on-line smear campaign for a crime I was later proven innocent...if I had the finances, I would have a legal field day with the people responsible.
