Ok, I had time to read through some of the comments and I think it is a good time to address them. This is in no way personal, but some of the comments here disturb me a bit.
Of course we contact them! Why not? We already know from arrest records what's going on. You should look around in the mail bag thread more. This isn't the first by far to be contacted.
If we're wrong, we apologize. I've never known anyone to be wrong here.
Again, I absolutely do not condone contacting people we feature on this site. It does no good whatsoever. And we have been wrong. A few times. Well, not me...but still.
If we take some skin off their ass and it turns out we were wrong... Just look at all the entertainment the world has got out of it at their expense.
I'm all for it.
I'm not.
We are supposed to be here for the victims, at the expense of the accused, not the other way around. It does not always work out that way, but to not care if a victim or innocent person got skewered for entertainment bothers me, and I hope that the majority of people do not feel this way.
Hey wait, Dakota, isn't that our job here?????? To shame them.
Well, in all honesty, we have deemed that OUR job. But we do this by reporting on crimes reported by the news. I do not contact them. I would never condone following anyone around to their Myspace pages to leave nasty comments or bait them. That's just me.The only time I ever interact with anyone we feature on this site, is if the contact me directly. I have never, in the hundreds of stories we have posted, initiated contact with one person. I would suggest you do the same.
See, if the news is wrong, I can easily go back and update the story. I don't ever want to go back and have to update a slew of nasty comments I made. My motto is that if by the facts I am given, is there any chance that the accused could be innocent? If so, I do not make assumptions. We have enough people who deserve scorn and ridicule...use the comment feature for the story to do so.
Personally? If I were the victim of an on-line smear campaign for a crime I was later proven innocent...if I had the finances, I would have a legal field day with the people responsible.
