A man accused of kidnapping an 18-month old child will stand trial.
Prosecutors called Omaha police officer Adam Heidesch to the stand, who testified getting the call that 48-year-old Yreneo Mayok came to the sober house he was living in with a child saying it was his baby now.
On June 27, Mayok arrived back at his sober living house allegedly intoxicated with an 18 month old, and then went upstairs to sleep, according to authorities.
Both a woman at the home called police, along with the child's mother who reported her baby had been kidnapped.
Heidesch testified the mother asked Mayok to watch the baby the night before.
The three were together the next day driving around, when they stopped at a hotel for a break.
The officer testified that's when Mayok drove back to the sober living house with the baby.
Mayok's defense called the case "a stretch" because the child was not harmed and the mother had just asked him to watch the child the day before.
Despite officials not performing a blood alcohol test, they reported Mayok was so intoxicated that he was going in and out of consciousness when they took him into custody.
