ASHEVILLE - A woman whose racist video rants and attack on a Black teenager and woman in a hijab made international news has been struck by a vehicle.


Rachel Dawn Ruit of Terry's Gap Road in Henderson County suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by an Asheville Fire Department pickup truck July 13 in West Asheville, according to police and a witness.

Officers with the Asheville Police Department are investigating the accident APD spokeswoman Christina Hallingse said.

"This afternoon at approximately 1:30 p.m. the Asheville Police Department responded to the 800 block of Patton Avenue after reports of a pedestrian being struck in the roadway," Hallingse said.

"Upon arrival officers located a female, known to officers as Rachel Dawn Ruit, suffering from life threatening injuries. She is currently at Mission in critical condition."

"I just witnessed the same lady from that video accidentally step out into traffic on Patton Avenue, going towards downtown Asheville, as she was walking with traffic coming from behind her," Rowell posted on Facebook. "The Asheville Fire Department truck that you see in the background is the vehicle that she stepped out in front of."

Ruit, 41, was arrested July 4 after she ripped off a woman's hijab and grabbed a teenager in the groin after saying she needed to be "put down" and threatening to rape her.

She was arrested and charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and second-degree trespass, all misdemeanors.

Prior to that, Ruit made international news when people posted June 13 and July 1 videos of her ranting racial epithets and making threats.

Usually, I hate reading about people getting hit and viciously wounded by indomitable vehicles.

However, it would be extremely hard for the firetruck (driver) to choose a better victim for this type of thing. If only this would happen to more bad people, like in the movies! As @TexasDawg has already suggested, you reap what you sow. This is almost a proportionate consequence. Now that this happened, I hope the truck is able to get fixed by a highly qualified Karmakanic. (Beside the point, but that's also the name of a Sewdish progressive rock band)

Per MSN, someone reported:

Asheville resident Sonya Lynn posted on Facebook that she once had to slam on her brakes after Ruit “walked out in front of my company vehicle while I’m driving 45 mph.”

Lynn said her tires squealed as she frantically “averted” a collision, leading Ruit to flip her off.

My theory is: she was such a horrible, antagonistic bitch that she liked to terrorize people by standing in traffic and making them panic stop for her.

And she may have tried to do that to a fire truck

... which cannot stop quickly.
