A woman died after being sexually assaulted while unconscious on the steps of a church in South Nashville Thursday night, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
According to MNPD, a Nashville Fire Department crew was driving past the church around 9:30 p.m. when firefighters witnessed a man assaulting the woman. They immediately intervened, and the woman was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead.
Surveillance video from the church reportedly shows the woman walking unsteadily to the steps. A man, who police say is 39-year-old Mohamed Mohamed, sits beside her and attempts to touch her. Police said the woman pushed him away before she began losing consciousness.
Mohamed is accused of then picking the woman up and sexually assaulting her multiple times while she was unresponsive. He’s charged with four counts of rape for sexually assaulting an impaired/unconscious woman.
Mohamed was arrested at the scene and is being held on a $300,000 bond. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
