Indian wolf. There are about three to five thousand in India and they are endangered.

But they also eat a lot of people. They have a reputation for being cunning.

"Villagers in India have beaten to death a wolf believed to be the last of a six-member pack that killed nine people, eight of them children."

Here are the events that happened last year:

"On March 10, a wolf carried away a three-year-old girl from Mishram Purwa village when she was sleeping in the open and her body was never recovered.

On March 28, a lone wolf killed a one-year-old child in Nayapurwa village.

The attacks escalated after a one-month old boy from Sikandarpur village on July 17

A two-year old was killed on July 28 and another eight-year-old boy was taken away by the wolves on August 3.

On August 17, a four-year-old girl, who was sleeping outside her house was dragged away during a power cut and on August 24, an eight-year-old girl from the Majhra Bhatoli village became the fifth child victim of the wolves in one month

On August 27, another infant was killed by the wolves.

On September 2, the wolves killed a three year old and attacked two elderly women in Nauhan Garethi village on the same night.

On September 4, the wolves entered a house and carried away a sleeping seven-year-old boy, whose body was found the next day.

On 10 September, a lone wolf attacked and injured two girls on the same night in separate incidents, which was followed by an attack on 50-year-old woman the next day."

Wolves have a long history in India...

"In 1996, a lone wolf killed many people in three districts across the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. About 43 people were killed and 13 wolves were hunted in response.

Between April 1993 and April 1995, five wolf packs attacked 80 children, 20 of whom were rescued."

So this latest problem was because of a six member wolf pack

"The wolves attacked more than 40 people

The wolves attacked within minutes of a power cut that plunged the village into darkness."

A new pack will move in.
In the meantime, everybody should look out for the face eating leopards. LOL

That's crazy! I am of course seeing things through the filter of my American non-traveling eyes and thought, damn, that first picture looks more like a coyote. Well apparently Indian wolves are a lot closer to coyote size than Timber wolf size (like 40-55 lbs).

Does make sense then that they are picking off small or elderly victims. I would DEFINITELY be more in fear of those leopards, I hear they have been feasting as of late!

You're just a half step in front of death from an animal attack in India.

Between 58,000 to 138,000 people die from snake bites in India every year
About 6,000 people die from dog attacks
Between the years of 2023 to 2024, 629 people died from elephant attacks
In 2022, 110 people died from tiger attacks.
Stray cows kill quite a few people as well

Face eating leopards are definitely not hungry in America right now
