Turkey: Man beat his 6YO son into a coma w/a vacuum cleaner because he hadn't done his homework

A six-year-old boy is in a coma after he was allegedly beaten by his father using a vacuum cleaner for failing to do his homework.

Police have arrested the father, named only as Mehmet Ali Y., for the attack in the city of Iskenderun in southern Turkey's Hatay Province.

He is accused of violently beating the little boy, named as Mertcan Y., with the metal pipe of a vacuum cleaner because he had not done his homework.

Neighbours called paramedics to the scene after finding the boy unconscious after the beating.

The six-year-old was rushed by ambulance to the Iskenderun State Hospital where he was quickly taken into intensive care with severe injuries to his head and face.

Mertcan is currently on a life support machine but his condition is described as critical. Police are investigating and have arrested Mehmet Ali Y.

And Mehmet Ali Y's own mother, named as Halide O., said: 'My son used to beat me too every day. I filed a complaint against him but he threatened to kill me so I withdrew my complaint.'
