The father of 1-month-old twins who were found dead in October 2023 has now been charged with capital murder, according to court documents.

According to court documents, Fernando Vega, 21, was originally charged with two counts of injury to a child but now faces murder charges.

At this time, the twins’ mother, Angelina Calderon, is only charged with two counts of injury to a child with serious bodily injury.
  • Massail and Mirena Vega were found unresponsive at a home on Linden Creek Lane on Oct. 4, 2023
  • The twins were pronounced dead at the scene at 11:22 a.m.
  • Fernando Vega told investigators that he was the last one to see the kids alive around 5 a.m. or 6 a.m.
  • An autopsy determined that the infants suffered blunt-force trauma
The twins were found unresponsive in October 2023 after police said Vega claimed he left them in his grandmother's care. It wasn't until April 2024 that charges were filed following a complete autopsy that showed bruises, abrasions, and contusions, both new and old. The twins were also severely malnourished and dehydrated, according to the autopsy.

During court on April 22, Angelina Calderon had a loud, emotional outburst as she tried to explain that Vega was the last one with the children.
"I don't care! You're making me look like I'm a bad person," she said in court. "I don't f*****g care. I was at work when they f*****g died."

Miss ma'am, they don't have to make you seem like anything. Your 6 week old twins had new and old injuries - again, at 6 weeks alive in this world!
There is no way she didn't notice. You know every single inch of your babies at that age. There is no reason for them to have serious bruising, big cuts, head wounds, etc.
This wasn't a one time thing while she was gone...

The dick stayed home and she worked she did not know her babies.

she must not even have looked at them otherwise she sure would have noticed that "The twins were also severely malnourished and dehydrated" or even made them a bottle or fed them cuz she sure would have noticed that the formula milk wasn't diminishing much in quantity ... kids sure drinks enough even at 6 weeks old to make that formula go down in quantity fast and needs new one bought and she had 2 so twice as fast ...

I don’t know about that. The majority of mothers work, at least the ones I’m acquainted with, as did I, and we more than knew our babies. If she indeed had no idea what was going on with her own children it certainly wasn’t because she worked.

A Houston father accused of beating his twin daughters to death will spend up to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to two felonies in connection to the killings.

Fernando Vega, 23, pleaded guilty to two counts of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury. As a result of a plea deal reached with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, Vega avoided going to trial on capital murder charges.
Vega on Friday was given concurrent 40 year sentences, according to court records. He will eventually be transferred to a Texas state prison to serve out his sentence.
In October 2024, Vega was indicted on two capital murder charges over the deaths of his 6-week-old twin daughters, Massail and Mirena. The girls were found dead in a southeast Houston home in October 2023.

Vega was accused of hitting the girls with his hands, a blunt object and an unknown object, and by causing the babies' death "by inflicting acceleration-deceleration forces."
On the day they died, Vega told police that he found the twins dead after dropping their mother, Angelina Calderon, off at work and that they had been left in the care of his grandmother.

Autopsies later revealed evidence of blunt force trauma, including fractures to the sisters' legs, clavicles and ribs. One of the girls had a fracture to her head and both of the children were malnourished, according to charging documents.
Angelina Calderon pleaded guilty to the charges against her in July, and admitted to failing to providing adequate protection, nutrition and medical care, according to Harris County court records
