ATLANTA - Police are investigating the tragic shooting death of a 14-year-old girl who was pregnant.

Police said Sonja Star Harrison was in a downstairs unit at the Pavilion Place complex in the 500 block of Cleveland Avenue, visiting a friend. Around 6:30 p.m. Monday, someone in an upstairs apartment fired a single shot. The bullet went through the floor, striking the Harrison below. Sadly, she died at the scene.

“The person that had the gun in their hand, I want them to turn themselves in because if it was an accident you need to prove it” Star's mom Sonja Denise Harrison.

Harrison said that not only did the shooting take one life, "they took two."

“She was pregnant, but she had a future. She was going to finish school and she was talking about joining the army, for her and her baby. And they took that away from her. They took my baby’s future. And they didn’t have no right doing that," she said.

Detectives said there were several people in the upstairs apartment where the shot was fired. Police interviewed them, hoping to learn what led up to the shot being fired.

Investigators told FOX 5 it's possible this was an accidental shooting but said it will take some time before they know for sure. So far, no arrests have been made.

A man has been arrested for shooting dead a pregnant 14-year-old girl who was babysitting her sister's children when she was hit by a bullet from an upstairs Atlanta apartment.

Souleyman Diallo, 20, was charged with second-degree murder for the killing of 14-year-old Sonja Star Harrison and her unborn child, according to local police.

Family members say Sonja 'Star' Harrison was an eighth-grader from Stone Mountain who was expected to give birth next month the day before New Year's.

Harrison was shot on Monday at the Pavilion Place Apartments after a gunshot went through the floor of an upstairs apartment and struck her in the head. She had been babysitting her young nephews at the time.

Sonja's mother, Sonja Denise Harrison, shared that she had learned of the arrest but asserted that she wasn't aware of any connections between the two.

'Folks saying he's the baby's father,' she told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. 'He is not the father. He is not the father.'

The mother would not provide any new details until she spoke with her lawyer.
