This is way off the usual styles of music posted here, but 20 years ago today, I lost my wonderful, loving father.
Not a day has passed that I haven't needed his love, support, and advice to help my get through the other pain filled days of my life. He was only just 60, and was my defender, champion, and encouragement during his life.

My last words to him after he died (because hearing is the last thing to go, even after all equipment has flat lined) were, "Thank you for my music, Daddy.!". It always blew my mind, that as a trained classical pianist, he could sight read perfectly the 1st time a piece was in front of him; conversely, I would blow his mind at how fast I could memorize, and without ever seeing the standard notation, jump in and play in tune and often the actual piece itself by ear, along with my ability to improvise in key/time to what ever he played.

I love, miss and need you so much daddy, and I hope when I talk to you, that somehow, you do hear me, even if you can't respond in any way that I can recognize.

The media machine knows what to do
It knows how to feed the poison to you
Useless information for your useless little lives
The tv lies and pacifies

Do you believe everything you see?
Children of the void come follow me
Denounce your faith and penance the savior is unseen
I am the new drug, your poison godmachine... poison

Poison godmachine...

This IS THE SONG THAT MADE ME WANT TO PLAY LEAD GUITAR!
Of all the songs done by men and women, this *one* was my inspiration, where I learned the triple 3 finger picking styles of Mark Knopfler, longer before I studied Nancy Wilson, or Lindsey Buckingham for their total finer picking styles, I watched and watched Mark Knopfler - in the late 90's I met Chet Adkins while making Ray_Dan guitars. I was humbled by meeting Chet, who my master luthier Ray Riggs had written many songs for, and his extremely adept apprentice/protege, duringthe lst 2 albums that Chet made.
I was humbled to be in the presence of not just 1, but 3 world class guitarist's, including my master luthier, Ray Riggs, who wrote many songs for that last few Chet Adkins' along with his protege, and my master, who I followed to every example. But even my master said, after they'd left, "Chet is a bit over rated, IMO", I lol'd and said, "If he'd come here with Mark Knopfler, I'd have dropped to my knees and bowed down!"
Now mind you, Ray had written several songs for the final 2 Chet albums, and Knopfler was just a blip on the radar back then, but was the man I emulated in my 3 finger picking with the thumb and two first fingers together styles, long before I started to duplicate Lindsey Buckingham's floating finger picking style, or had even seen Nancy Wilson do her finger picking/thumb pick styles.
These were my "teachers", Ray Riggs as my luthier master and playing stylist, Lindsey Buckingham, Nancy Wilson from "Heart", and *the* Mark Knopfler. And they eventually lead me to the great Keb' Mo'!

Wow!!!! Chet is a beast. Has anyone ever told you how blessed you are?

He was a true gentleman, soft spoken, charming, with a sense of humor and and a mind boggling musician.
That's why I just kept fine sanding 2 guitars while the 3 of them played some of the different models we'd made, I didn't even want to embarrass myself, having only played for about 14 yrs at that point, with 3 men who's combined experience was over 110+ years.
But I payed attention to every move their fingers made. ;)

...
If I die young, bury me in satin
Lay me down on a bed of roses
Sink me in the river at dawn
Send me away with the words of a love song

The sharp knife of a short life, oh well
I've had just enough time ...

Naya Rivera sang this as a tribute to Cory Monteith on the "Glee" series after his death, as I understand it, the breakdown at the end of this wasn't scripted, just grief emerging.
The words sadly, a portent of things to come: "Sink me in the river at dawn".
