This IS THE SONG THAT MADE ME WANT TO PLAY LEAD GUITAR!
Of all the songs done by men and women, this *one* was my inspiration, where I learned the triple 3 finger picking styles of Mark Knopfler, longer before I studied Nancy Wilson, or Lindsey Buckingham for their total finer picking styles, I watched and watched Mark Knopfler - in the late 90's I met Chet Adkins while making Ray_Dan guitars. I was humbled by meeting Chet, who my master luthier Ray Riggs had written many songs for, and his extremely adept apprentice/protege, duringthe lst 2 albums that Chet made.
I was humbled to be in the presence of not just 1, but 3 world class guitarist's, including my master luthier, Ray Riggs, who wrote many songs for that last few Chet Adkins' along with his protege, and my master, who I followed to every example. But even my master said, after they'd left, "Chet is a bit over rated, IMO", I lol'd and said, "If he'd come here with Mark Knopfler, I'd have dropped to my knees and bowed down!"
Now mind you, Ray had written several songs for the final 2 Chet albums, and Knopfler was just a blip on the radar back then, but was the man I emulated in my 3 finger picking with the thumb and two first fingers together styles, long before I started to duplicate Lindsey Buckingham's floating finger picking style, or had even seen Nancy Wilson do her finger picking/thumb pick styles.
These were my "teachers", Ray Riggs as my luthier master and playing stylist, Lindsey Buckingham, Nancy Wilson from "Heart", and *the* Mark Knopfler. And they eventually lead me to the great Keb' Mo'!
