A woman whose brother and parents were killed in the New Zealand mosque massacre has said she will forgive the attacker if he repents and converts to Islam.

Ghulam Hussain, his wife, Karam Bibi, and their son Zeeshan Raza, all of Pakistan, were killed when a terrorist gunman went on the rampage in Christchurch last week.
The only one now left alive in their family is Zeeshan's sister, who lives in Karachi.

In an interview, Maryam Gul said that after initial anger, she has decided she can forgive the man who carried out the horrifying attack, that left 50 dead and dozens more injured last Friday.

Australian Brenton Tarrant, 28, a suspected white supremacist who was living in New Zealand, has been charged with murder over the attacks.

Gul told the BBC: 'First of all I wanted him to be punished very severely, but then I realised that's not the sunnah (example) of my prophet.

'He used to forgive the person who killed his relatives. I want him (the killer) to become Muslim and repent, and see that it's wrong and realise how beautiful Islam is.'

Her parents were visiting Zeeshan for the first time from Pakistan when they were slaughtered along with their son. He had previously described New Zealand as 'paradise'.

I guess she wants him to kill for Allah

How would she ever know if he converted with sincerity?

I'm going to guess that he has no fucks left to give about this woman's forgiveness and that he will be sincere about that.

Looks like crazy dude is wear a suicide smock in that link. Let him go, people. Save the money and let him off himself if she so desires.

The DM headline is misleading. They are trying to squeeze some drama from anodyne statements.
In the article, the woman did not say "I will forgive him if he converts." Her statement about forgiveness is generic and I see nothing to criticise.. Also her follow up statement that she wants him to convert to see the beauty of Islam is very conventional sentiment. Christians (and others) also speak in the same terms. It's usually the methods we worry about.
If she followed up with a more controversial statement like "Or else I hope he is beheaded when the Caliphate conquers New Zealand", it's not in the article.

If things were reversed and someone had made the same statement about converting to the beauties of Judaism or Christianity, they would be accused of Islamophobia, and "how dare you force your religion on anyone!"
If all we ever heard about Islam was greeting card statements like hers, people wouldn't be so wary of it.
