Sigh. This isn't your home country, dude. You can't just punish your wife like she's your property without facing repercussions here.

This asshole actually flew his parents in from India to help him 'discipline' her.

They also have a one year old child who was involved. :( Although the article isn't specific, all three perps have child abuse charges in addition to everything else.

A family is accused of holding a Riverview woman and her child hostage and beating her over an extended period of time, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies found Silky Gaind at a home on the 9600 block of Greenbank Drive in Riverview. She had been beaten and was badly bruised.

The sheriff’s office had learned her in-laws, Jasbir Kalsi and Bhupinder Kalsi, traveled to the Bay area from Punjab, India to help their son, Gaind’s husband Devbir Kalsi, “counsel and discipline” his wife because they thought she was acting disobediently.

Gaind called her family in India and told them she was being beaten and held captive by her husband and in-laws. Someone associated with the family notified the HCSO, telling them Gaind was hesitant to call the cops because of cultural expectations.

When a deputy came to the home for a welfare check, he saw people inside, but no one acknowledged his presence. He continued to knock and heard Gaind try to open the door as she screamed for help, begging the deputy to save her and her child, according to an arrest report.

The deputy forced his way into the home and was immediately confronted by her husband, Devbir Kalsi, who tried to shut the door on the officer, but was unsuccessful. As the deputy tried to place him in handcuffs, the in-laws came into the picture and also confronted the deputy.

The officer called for backup, which arrived at the home and found Gaind with bruises all over her body.

Investigators said she had been beaten over an extended period of time.

A preliminary investigation revealed Kalsi’s parents had participated in holding Gaind and her child against their will. At one point, Jasbir Kalsi had held a knife to her throat. The family also confiscated her phone so she would not call the cops.

The sheriff’s office said all parties involved are foreign nationals of India.

The family was taken into custody and Devbir Kalsi was charged with false imprisonment, felony battery, child abuse and denying access to 911.

Jasbir Kalsi faces charges for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon (knife), false imprisonment child abuse and denying access to 911.

Bhupinder Kalsi was charged with battery domestic violence and failure to report child abuse.

Let them get their shit sorted there.

Three foreign nationals from India were arrested Saturday after deputies found a beaten woman and her child being held inside her home, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies described the woman, 33-year-old Silky Gaind, as "badly beaten and bruised over her entire body" from beatings by her husband and his parents that they say had "been ongoing for an extended period of time."

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's office said 33- Gaind called her parents in India on Saturday to tell them of the abuse. They then called authorities.

Deputies arrived about 6:30 a.m. Saturday at 9601 Greenbank Drive, the home of the woman and her husband, 33-year-old Devbir Kalsi. Though deputies had confirmed people were inside the home, repeated knocks at the door went unanswered.

Eventually, Gaind tried to open the door and "screamed for the deputy to save her and her child," the Sheriff's Office said. A deputy then forced the door open to find Kalsi. When Kalsi tried to push the door closed, the deputy began arresting him before being confronted by the man's father, Jasbir Kalsi, 67, and mother, Bhupinder Kalsi, 61.

An investigation by the agency found that the parents had traveled from India to "counsel and discipline" Gaind at their son's request. Devbir Kalsi had told his parents that his wife was being disobedient. While beatings by her husband continued, Gaind was held against her will by his parents.

According to an arrest report, Devbir Kalsi and his wife got into an argument on Friday night, during which he struck her "repeatedly and forcefully." When the woman tried to defend herself, Devbir Kalsi's parents began hitting her, too, causing bruises on her face, neck and torso before Jasbir Kalsi threatened to stab her with a kitchen knife, the report said.

During the fight, Gaind was holding her and Devbir Kalsi's child, who was inadvertently hit in the face before being put in a separate room, the report said. Deputies say Devbir Kalsi later dragged his wife into another room after taking her phone, and his parents locked her inside.

Both Devbir and Jasbir Kalsi face charges of false imprisonment, child abuse and denying access to 911. Devbir Kalsi faces an additional charge of felony battery, and Jasbir Kalsi is accused of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Bhupinder Kalsi faces charges of battery domestic violence and failure to report child abuse.

Sad the woman and her child were subjected to this level of brutality...I don't care what their culture is.

Being from India, her parents probably couldn't make the trip to assist their son-in-law in disciplining their wayward daughter, sad to say.

Well, I am totally happy I was wrong. Looks like the woman's parents are better than I thought.

No seriously ... if she was born into the tradition ... then she knows what's expected of her. I doubt very much that she was simply holding their baby and he came up and started beating on her ... something was going on. Also I don't think its wrong for a woman to defer to a man ... in fact for lots of little girls its their dream to have a man to defer too.
