Newly released court documents in the case obtained by Denver7 suggest the two young girls may have been strangled.

The implication came in a motion filed by defense attorneys in Weld County court to compel the coroner to take DNA from the necks and throats of the remains of Bella and Celeste. ABC News also reported the body of Shanann Watts, the mother of the little girls, was found in a shallow grave.

In the motion, DNA expert Richard Eikelenboom concludes that DNA evidence “would remain on the necks of the decedent children.”

Eikelenboom writes, “After samples are taken the nails should be cut preserved. I have a lot experience taking samples from dead bodies getting good results after strangulation.”

Eikelenboom is a forensic scientist who has claimed to be a DNA expert in trials in Colorado and across the United States, but was discredited two years ago in a 2013 sex assault case in Denver District Court.

The motion, which also indicates the children’s bodies were submerged in crude oil for four days, was dismissed by the judge.

The father of murdered Colorado woman Shanann Watts sobbed in court on Tuesday as a judge read the charges against the woman's husband Christopher Lee Watts aloud.

Christopher Lee Watts, the man accused of murdering his pregnant wife and two young daughters, only spoke "yes, sir" and "no, sir" when asked by Judge Marcelo A. Kopcow about his understanding of the charges against him.

Sitting in the courtroom not far from Watts, Shanann Watts' father Frank Rzucek Sr. sobbed into his hands, looking up only briefly with tear-filled eyes. Rzucek's son Frankie sat next to his father, with a comforting hand on his shoulder.

Christopher Lee Watts, 33, of Frederick, Colorado, a suburb north of Denver, was charged a day earlier with five counts of murder in the death of his wife Shanann Watts, 34, and their daughters, Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3.

To be able to prove that she's the one who killed the girls, but he dumped them in a full tank of oil or whatever it was, if they get anything it will be amazing. But nobody but his lawyer is believing this story and his lawyer is paid to believe it.
 
Cant believe anyone is entertaining his excuse for a second. Why would you not call police? Why hide all the bodies?

The monumental holes in his new excuse and questions it raises are too plentiful and obvious to even bother mentioning.

wasn't a rumour put it up last night in the feed as I couldn't find this, he put them in oil barrel and her buried next to it

I believe he killed the girls while shanann was out of town and killed shanann when she returned.
It makes no sense that he didn't bury them all together.

You misunderstood me. I meant the rumor part was that the girls had been murdered much earlier than the mother and they were put into the oil to throw off the real timeline of the deaths.

If the rumour is true,
1) It should hopefully be easy for the pathologist to prove
2) It will shoot his excuse for the murder, that he did it in a blind rage when he saw his wife killing the children, down in flames
