The video is too graphic to show in its entirety, however, the Douglas County District Attorney says it goes on to show Kayla Ray, 21, choking, smothering and punching one of her then-seven month old twins before throwing the child back into the crib.

The video was recorded in September 2018.

On Thursday, Ray pleaded guilty to five counts of cruelty to children in the first degree.
On Friday, the Douglas County D.A. released a statement saying in part:

“(Kayla Ray) deserves to spend the rest of her natural life in prison or under the state’s supervision", - Ryan Leonard, Douglas County D.A.

A judge handed her a 100-year sentence.

"There are definitely no winners at all," says Callies. "The one that it happened to, she's in a better place right now, but other than that nobody comes out a winner on this."

Ray must serve 50 years in prison and serve the rest of her sentence on probation.

At the time of her arrest Ray was pregnant with a fourth child. She delivered while in custody.
Daniel Callies says he is glad he paid attention to his intuition and set a phone to record the interactions between his seven-month-old grandchild and the child's mother. When he went back to watch the video, he says he was bothered to see the child being beaten and shaken.

“I didn't expect anything like this,” says Callies. “When I started seeing it I got terrified. I didn't have anger because the Lord put the spirit on me that I was feeling what that poor baby had been through and I was scared.”

Callies reported the video to Douglasville Police. Officers arrested and charged Kayla Ray, 20.

The September 13 incident report lists charges as aggravated assault, battery, and cruelty to children.

Calleis says the young victim is a twin. He told FOX 5 News the two, and a sibling who is a little more than a year older, are with the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services. Calleis adds that his son, the father of the children, was in the hospital at the time of the assault. Hopes his family's situation resonates with others.

Callies later learned the twins are not his biological grandchildren.

I'm cool with an unreasonably long prison sentence for people who choke and beat babies. I'm thinking there were probably contributing factors that suggested she was never going to be a contributing member of society. That whole thing of lying about her babies' paternity couldn't have helped....

That's pretty much the best baby age, too. They're not 4 months going through sleep regression, and they're not 11 month olds cutting teeth and starting to walk around and grab your stuff. (Those ages are still cute, but slightly more frustrating as a parent.) 7 month olds are adorable smiley bags of cuteness.

That’s an incredibly long ass sentence for beating a kid

Given the description, it was a vicious, prolonged assault on a 7-month old baby, which is more than beating a kid. It was recklessly and violently endangering a baby's life through an assault. It could be considered luck that the baby did not in fact die. What she did was functionally similar to a murder attempt.

Vicious baby-abusing women of this sort should be required to have their tubes permanently tied before they leave prison unless they are too old to possibly conceive anything new at release.

I really don't think it matters that the twins weren't biologically his grandchildren, I'm sure he loved them because he believed they were and you can't just turn that off when you find out it's not true. My "granddaughter" is not legally or biologically my family but I love her more than I can express in words. I'm just glad grandpa had a hinky feeling that "mom" was abusive. If he's anything like me, they would have to fight me for those babies.

100 years we’ll thats a little bit ridiculous but the law don’t play with children so just don’t beat your kids anymore simple as that dummy mom!
Ridiculous? Seriously? She broke that baby’s arm once and could have seriously caused her permanent damage with that abuse-and that’s only what was recorded. If not for her grandfather that woman would have surely killed that baby.
And I don’t know what cases you’ve been reading, but sadly the law very often does “play with children”. Offenders not only get off with sentences that are a joke, but often probation, a safety plan to sign, and their kids back to beat to death.

So, this happen in the "Shoutbox" this morning.

I am just now seeing what people had said about Kayla Ray getting a harsh sentence. And I am the Grandfather just real quick i would like to let everyone know that she had to give her CPR two times in such a short time. If it is possible and enough people would like to use caution. I would love nothing more than to post the video and would be more than happy to explain any question anyons wants to ask

Hi @Pawpaw ... We don't know what case you are referring to. It would be better to post your comments on the original thread. We are always interested in hearing details or deeper explanations from family members.

I dont think i personally would be posting videos of my grandchild being abused on the internet. If you are the grandfather, im struggling to understand your motivation for wanting to post that

No new info, but I did find her prison inmate information. It looks like Kayla is making the best of it.

I am the Grandfather and just so you know why I would even consider posting the video is because I truly feel like everyone needs to see for educational purposes. I try to send the video to everyone I meet. The reason for me wanting to do so is simple I have always believed in our father God but that very night was nothing but the work of the lord I had to give in to him that night and let him use my body as a vessel and when I watched it and seen that the baby was dead and that she had to perform CPR two times. At that time I started feeling what that baby felt for 7 months I felt for 7 straight horrible hours
