Sentenced: While Baby Willow's Mother Was At Work Daddy Hemorrhaged Her Spine

On February 22th 4-month-old Willow "Strawberry" Kubai arrived at Bartow Regional Hospital in cardiac arrest with suspicious physical injuries.

Willow survived for two days before dying as a result of her injuries.

Those injuries included a skull fracture, multiple layers of bleeding in the brain, a hemorrhaged spine, 10 fractured ribs with multiple impact bruises and scratches.

The child's father, 22-year-old Jacob Kubai, was caring for Willow while her mother was at work.

Kubai said he and the child went to Walmart to the Walmart at 6:40 p.m. Security video footage obtained by the Sheriff's Office shows Kubai at a self-checkout register at 6:54 p.m. with no sign of the baby.

According to the sheriff's office, an autopsy found, "Based on the injuries noted, the skull fracture would have been caused by the caregiver at that time. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma of the head. The manner of death was ruled as a homicide."

After some time left in a jail cell, Jacob Kubai asked to speak with investigators recounting that "none of this is real. My wife isn't real. My baby isn't real," according to Judd.

Jacob Kubai has no history of mental illness or any prior criminal record, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.

Here's the thing, I actually treat pepople with command auditory hallucinations. Almost all them seek to be admitted when the voices tell them to harm themselves or others. They find it distressing and want the voices to stop. If he felt "they weren't real" then by all means, leave. Go find your reality elsewhere. No, he was likely tired of the stress and mundanity that comes with infant care. Probably was angry the wee one interfered with his gaming or some shit.

My uncle and dad were paranoid schizophrenics. With my uncle when he was a teenager everybody knew there was something wrong with him while my grandma was in denial. Eventually he was committed n diagnosed. He didn't like being on the meds and was obviously unpredictable. He would go to his room and go on about sinners going to hell, judgement day. He would sit outside responding to voices. And he would get mouthy, wanting to fight. He thought ppl were after his money.
My dad's symptoms came later in his 20's and he was aware that he was losing his mind and wanted help. But he also didn't like the meds. Eventually he was homeless, missing in Florida and without his meds, robbing stores. I think ppl with real schizophrenia would rather deal with the voices instead of being on their meds. And those around ppl with schizophrenia knows when they aren't taking theirs meds and are unpredictable and can become dangerous.. It's very obvious. It isn't going to just show up just because he's in jail now for murdering his baby.

A Florida man charged in the "vicious" death of his infant daughter entered a guilty plea to a charge of aggravated manslaughter of a child.

Jacob Kubai, 23, entered that plea in a deal with the State's Attorneys' Office, who agreed to drop charges of aggravated child abuse and abuse of a child without great bodily harm.

At a press conference following his arrest, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said that Kubai claimed, "None of this is real. My wife's not real, my baby's not real."

Judd said Kubai "viciously murdered his daughter." He said the injuries were so severe that it left no doubt how she was killed. "I don’t know how a father could do this to his child, but I do know he should be locked-up for as long as the law allows."

Judd said Kubai showed “no remorse” and “no emotion” during his interviews.

Kubai is now heading to prison after a judge sentenced him to 30 years for aggravated manslaughter.
