An American man has been charged in Germany with murder, rape and other counts for shoving two US tourists into a 165-foot ravine near a fairytale castle, killing one of them, prosecutors said.
The 31-year-old suspect, previously identified as Troy Bohling, from Michigan, has been indicted at the German state court in Kempten, which will decide whether and when to send the case to trial.

The murder suspect’s name has not been officially released by police in accordance with German privacy laws.

The indictment against Bohling incudes charges of murder, rape with fatal consequences, attempted murder and possession of child pornography.
Bohling has been accused of luring two female tourists he met by chance off a hiking trail near the Mariensbruecke Bridge on June 14 with the promise of a “romantic” view of the world-famous Neuschwanstein Castle.
The Michigan native then allegedly forced 21-year-old Eva Liu to the ground and tried to strip her naked.

When Liu’s friend, 22-year-old Kelsey Chang, attempted to intervene, prosecutors said Bohling pushed her down a 165-foot ravine.

Chang suffered a head injury and bruises, but survived.
Bohling then strangled Liu until she was unconscious and raped her, before pushing her down the steep slope as well, prosecutors said. The recent college graduate from Naperville, Illinois, later died from her injuries.

Prosecutors said they confiscated Bohling’s laptop and cellphones that were found to contain child pornography.

A Downriver man has been sentenced to life in prison for his attacks on two US women outside a castle in Germany.

Troy Bohling from Lincoln Park admitted to murder and attempted murder and rape with fatal consequence charges when his trial started last month.
Prosecutors say the attack on two women took place in June, 2023 near Neuschwanstein castle, one of Germany's most famous tourist attractions.
The judge determined that Bohling bears particularly severe guilt, meaning that he likely won’t be eligible for release after 15 years as is usually the case in Germany - and described the defendant as "incredibly callous" adding that "a release after 15 years would not be justifiable," according to the Associated Press.

The victims were 21-year-old Eva Liu, who died, and her friend Kelsey Chang, 22, who survived. Both were recent graduates of the University of Illinois.
