Sentenced: Uncle Mikey, Live In Babysitter Gets 25 Yrs For Sexually Assaulting 5 Girls

A Port Orange man who abused his role as a baby-sitter by molesting and sexually assaulting five girls was sentenced on Thursday to 25 years in prison, prosecutors said.

Michael McCabe, 48, known as “Uncle Mikey” was also ordered to serve 25 years sex offender probation after his release from prison.

McCabe pleaded no contest to four counts of sexual battery against a child between 12-18, two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation against a child between 12 and 16 and three counts of attempted lewd and lascivious molestation of a child under 12.

The investigation began in December 2016 after two girls, at the time 15 and 16, said McCabe had molested them repeatedly when he was their live-in baby sitter when the girls were between 7 and 11 years old and living in Ormond Beach, according to charging affidavits. In another case, a 9-year-old girl reported McCabe began molesting her when she was 5 while living with her family in Holly Hill.

Some of the charges stem from a 10-year-old girl whose mother met McCabe in 2015 when she was volunteering at the Holly Hill School. She told investigators McCabe moved into the family’s home that same year in an agreement to baby sit her children and help around the house. McCabe even moved with the family from Holly Hill to Port Orange.
