On March 7, the Prince George’s County Homicide Unit detectives charged 27-year-old Joseph Barrett with second-degree murder, manslaughter and child neglect in the death of his 4-month-old infant daughter.
According to the preliminary investigation, Barrett had sole care and custody of his child at the time she went unresponsive.

According to authorities, Barrett admitted to consuming the drug “Molly” while caring for and feeding his daughter.
On Jan. 6, around 6:20 am, PGPD officers responded to a motel in the Largo area for the report of an unresponsive infant.

Officials reported the baby was pronounced dead shortly after.

Just over two months later, on March 4, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide, specifically a drug-related overdose.
