A violent stabbing attack left two people dead and at least six others injured in Las Vegas Thursday.

Some of the victims were showgirls taking pictures with tourists, bystanders told Fox 5.

Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters on the scene there had been eight victims; two had died and three were in critical condition in a hospital.
He added a suspect was in custody and a kitchen knife had been recovered from the scene.
Reporter Joe Moeller at local station KTNV Tweeted: “I’m speaking with a woman who says 4 injured showgirls work for her. She says the suspect had a knife & claimed he was a chef & wanted to take a picture with the showgirls, when they said no that is when the stabbings started.”

LAS VEGAS -- A man who allegedly stabbed eight people on the Las Vegas strip, killing two, said some had laughed at him and he "let the anger out," according to an arrest report released Friday.

Yoni Barrios, 32, also told one victim "sorry, man" before stabbing him in the back and also said that he hoped police would shoot him, the report said.

He was covered in blood when he was arrested after a brief chase Thursday, authorities said. They seized a large, long-bladed knife.

It wasn't immediately known whether Barrios had a lawyer who could comment on his behalf. The Clark County Public Defender's office was closed Friday.

The man who went on a knife rampage on the Las Vegas Strip, killing two and injuring six more, had a party boy past as a stripper before becoming homeless, The Post has learned.

Yoni Barrios was declared “indigent” by a Clark County, Nevada judge earlier this month, but his social media told a much different story, boasting of an extravagant lifestyle flashing big wads of cash and expensive jewelry.
Barrios, an illegal immigrant from Guatemala, had lived in Los Angeles where he regularly posted his gym-honed physique and took pictures at glamorous night spots such as Drai’s nightclub in Las Vegas.

A former friend of Barrios’ — who did not want to be named — said the 32-year old worked as a stripper in gay bars in the past and never “held down a regular job.”

Instead, Barrios mooched off men and women who had romantic interests in him, the source said, adding they believed he was straight but led men on to get cash.
Barrios claimed he had come to Las Vegas to seek work as a chef, showing a knife to a group of girls posing for pictures dressed as showgirls on the famed Strip.

When they became uneasy at his presence with the knife he snapped and stabbed showgirl Maris Digiovanni in the heart and bystander Brent Hallet with a kitchen knife near the Wynn hotel.
Eight months before the violent daytime attack, however, Barrios seemed to be living high on the hog, posting pictures of diamond rings, expensive watches and many shirtless photos of him working out, flexing his muscles.

On his profile he wrote: “Life teaches us to make good use of the time … while time teaches us the value of life … so be a good person but don’t waist (sic) time to prove it.”
The braggadocious posts seem a far cry from an interview Barrios conducted with a Los Angeles Spanish station, Telemundo 52, just two days before the stabbing-spree in Las Vegas.

In the interview, Barrios told the camera crew he was homeless and looking for a better life. He said he had lost all of his belongings and was asking for help.

He also said he received a prescription from a pharmacy in Hollywood that he believed had affected his brain.

The knife-wielding madman accused of fatally stabbing two people on the Last Vegas Strip — including a showgirl — was found mentally unfit to stand trial, The Post has confirmed.

A Las Vegas judge on Friday ruled Yoni Barrios, 32, must remain at a state psychiatric facility until a court-appointed psychiatrist can determine whether he is mentally competent to stand trial, according to court records.

Barrios was charged with two counts of open murder with a deadly weapon and six counts of attempted murder in the senseless broad-daylight attack on October 6.
According to a police report obtained by The Post, Barrios went into the Wynn looking for a job. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed Barrios, a Guatemalan national, was in the country illegally.
Police said Barrios spoke to a security guard at the Wynn and said he wanted to sell the knives he had in his possession so he could obtain some money to go back to his country.

The guard told him to “jump in front of a train,” according to the police report.
An enraged Barrios then approached the showgirls, later telling police they laughed and made fun of his clothing.

“Barrios said he became angry and stabbed one of the women [Digiovanni] in the chest after which he began stabbing the other women in the group as they ran away,” the police report said.

“Barrios started running and looking for groups of people so he could ‘let the anger out.’”

If the court determines Barrios is competent, the criminal case will proceed.

Barrios had been living in the streets in Los Angeles before he decided to go to Las Vegas. A friend of Barrios told The Post the 32-year old was a former stripper who mooched off men and women who had romantic interests in him.

Ok. I'm not condoning or necessarily saying that what he says is a true account of what was said...

But guard tells him to go kill himself, then these women laugh at him and make fun of him... I could see someone who's at the end of their rope losing it at being discarded so rudely.

Obviously none of them deserved to die and he needs to stay locked up forever. But maybe if the world wasnt such a shitty, fuck each other over kind of place, maybe we wouldn't have so many broken people.

Then again he's nuts and could have imagined all this stuff and just attacked random people who didn't even notice he was there.

The picture of his victim sitting next to a happily ever after pillow made me feel sad. She didn't get her happy ending.

Yoni Barrios was facing felony murder charges and attempted murder. But a district court judge ruled he was incompetent to stand trial. He’s currently at a state psychiatric hospital.

He should just be sent back to Guatemala and told if he returns he will be sentenced to twenty years and then given a lethal injection.

The man who killed two people and injured six more during a stabbing spree on the Las Vegas Strip will spend the rest of his life in prison, a judge ruled Tuesday.
On Oct. 6, 2022, Yoni Barrios, 35, asked a group of showgirls to take a photo with a foot-long kitchen knife he was trying to sell before stabbing them, police said after his arrest. Video the 8 News Now Investigators obtained shows Barrios then randomly stabbing several other people before security and police subdued him.

Brent Hallett, 47; and Maris DiGiovanni, 30, both of Las Vegas, died in the attack.
“I just want to say from the bottom of my heart that I’m sorry,” Barrios said before Clark County District Court Judge Tierra Jones sentenced him.
In January, Barrios took a plea deal where he agreed to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole. He pleaded guilty but mentally ill to terrorism and murder charges. The agreement removed the possibility of the death penalty.
