A Video obtained shows a passenger throwing multiple punches at a flight attendant on a plane to San Diego, which resulted in police escorting the woman off the plane and arresting the suspect.

The 44-second video recorded Sunday by another passenger depicts a woman striking the flight attendant, bloodying the woman’s eye, before yet another passenger jumped up from his seat to stop the altercation.

In a statement, Southwest Airlines said the passenger “repeatedly ignored standard inflight instructions” and became “verbally and physically abusive” as Flight 700 from Sacramento landed at San Diego International Airport.

Officers arrested 28-year-old Vyvianna Quinonez on suspicion of battery causing serious bodily injury, Port of San Diego Harbor Police said. She was booked into Las Colinas Detention Facility.

The flight attendant reportedly suffered facial injuries including the loss of two teeth, according to a union representing Southwest Airlines flight attendants. She was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital, police said.

San Diego resident Michelle Manner, who recorded the video from two rows in front of the altercation, told FOX 40 that the flight attendant provoked the incident.

“Vyvianna had said to her three times that we could hear ‘get off of me,’ ‘quit touching me,’ ‘get your hands off of me,” Manner said.

Manner said she was not able to record the first confrontation, which she said included the flight attendant telling Quinonez to put on her face mask on after it may have fallen below her nose.

“It was so unnecessary,” Manner said. “In the first altercation, she had said she was going to call the captain. She should have just stayed there in her back cubby.”

Quinonez’s family told FOX 40 that they were not yet ready to speak publicly about the ordeal.

On May 27, 2021, Southwest Airlines announced that she has been permanently banned by the airline.
On May 30, 2021, U.S. secretary of transportation Pete Buttigieg urged travelers to respect flight attendants and other crew members who enforce the federal mask mandate on planes, which will remain in effect until September 13, 2021.
The airline said a passenger repeatedly ignored instructions to put up their tray table and buckle their seat belt, then became verbally and physically abusive while the flight was still in the air — right before landing.
It was more than just being offended over being asked to wear a mask.. even if the flight attendant was a bitch.. you wait your 15 minutes to taxi and get off the plane.. conflict resolution she clearly lacks..

I don't care if the flight attendant was an unreasonable bitch, this is not the solution. Get her name, file a complaint, shame her on social media... fine. But punching her in the face and knocking out two teeth is not how reasonable adults resolve conflicts.

Thank goodness for the passenger who intervened. Well done, buddy.

Really despise all these idiot witnesses putting their two cents in about how the victim coulda/shoulda handled the situation better, how they both were in the wrong, blah blah idiots. Why is the media even giving these fucktards time to speak? Fucking morons.

Unless the stewardess started punching the passenger, then any and all other negative commentary and critique on the stewardess is moot and has ZERO pertinence to the animals crime.

Hard to tell, but did the attendant move to adjust her mask? If so, I would be very tempted to start throwing punches too

Someone merely trying to adjust your mask is def not justification to lash out violently. If anything, adjusting someones mask for them could be seen as a helpful gesture.

And even if someone felt they were somehow under threat(which is outrageous) by someone adjusting their mask, the means someone utilizes for self defense has to be proportional in order to be deemed reasonable. Slapping away the persons hand, shoving them, fine....decking them in the face repeatedly leaving them a bloody mess with missing teeth, only stopping when a male has to forcibly intervene? yeah...no dice.

Sounds like the flight attendant may have been on a power trip, let’s wait to judge after hearing from other passengers

Irrelevant.

Federal charges were filed Wednesday against a woman who allegedly struck a flight attendant during a flight to San Diego.

Vyvianna Quinonez, who was arrested May 23 at the culmination of the flight from Sacramento to San Diego International Airport, faces felony charges of assault resulting in serious bodily injury and interference with flight crew members and attendants, according to court documents.

An initial court appearance is set for Sept. 17 in San Diego.

The victim sustained injuries that included three chipped teeth -- two of which sustained serious enough damage that they were replaced with crowns -- a bruised left eye and a cut under her eye requiring four stitches, and bruising on her arm, according to the affidavit.

After she was taken into custody by San Diego Harbor Police at the airport, Quinonez told law enforcement that she acted in self-defense, the affidavit states.

Another passenger on the flight, Michelle Manner, alleged in interviews with various news outlets in May that the flight attendant provoked the incident, and that Quinonez could be heard multiple times saying "Get off me. Quit touching me. Get your hands off of me," prior to the physical altercation.

Manner also alleged that the flight attendant was screaming at Quinonez and her companions to put on their face masks, which may have fallen beneath their noses.

The run-in was highlighted by the president of the Southwest flight attendants union in an open letter to airline CEO Gary Kelly, which stated that "passenger non-compliance events" are becoming increasingly common and "more aggressive in nature."

A Southwest Airlines representative said in May that the passenger "repeatedly ignored standard in-flight instructions and became verbally and physically abusive upon landing. Law enforcement officials were requested to meet the flight upon arrival, and the passenger was taken into custody. We do not condone or tolerate verbal or physical abuse of our flight crews, who are responsible for the safety of our passengers."

Last month, the Federal Aviation Administration said its fines against "unruly passengers" who ignored flight crew instructions and/or threatened or assaulted members of the flight crew exceeded $1 million in 2021. The agency also said that nearly 4,000 reports of unruly behavior by passengers have been received since the beginning of the year.

That was an hilarious film. I especially liked the airport worker named Johnny, every second he was on screen was pure gold.

A California woman who punched a Southwest Airlines flight attendant in the face during a flight, breaking her teeth, has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison.

Vyvianna Quinonez was also ordered Tuesday by the federal judge in San Diego to pay nearly $26,000 in restitution and a $7,500 fine for the assault on a May 23, 2021, Southwest flight between Sacramento and San Diego.

The 29-year-old Sacramento woman is prohibited from flying for three years while she is on supervised release and must participate in anger management classes or counseling.

Quinonez last year pleaded guilty to one count of interference with flight crew members and attendants, admitting she punched the flight attendant in the face and head with a closed fist and grabbed her hair. Neither she nor her attorney could be reached for comment Tuesday.
