Sentenced: Pregnant Mom Fatally Shot While Breaking Up Fight At Her Harlem Baby Shower

A pregnant mom was fatally shot in the face when she tried to break up a fight between two men at her own baby shower, police and sources said Sunday.

Shanice Young, 31, was a mother of four, sources said. She was expecting her fifth child, but it wasn’t immediately clear how far along she was in the pregnancy. At least two of her children were at the baby shower.

Officers found her unconscious and unresponsive early Sunday near West 128th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard, police said.

The fight Young tried to break up was between her ex and the man she was currently in a relationship with, sources said.

Police have not yet made any arrests.

Police say the woman's ex-boyfriend, who was not invited, was one of the men involved in the fight.

They say the victim had several children.

Police on Tuesday released a photograph of a man wanted for allegedly shooting and killing a pregnant woman in Harlem over the weekend.

Justin Soriano, 40, shot Shanice Young, 31, hours after her baby shower wrapped up, cops said.

Soriano, the victim’s former boyfriend, was chasing around her current boyfriend with a gun before he targeted her, shooting her in the head, according to police.

Young was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her unborn baby didn’t survive, cops said.

Soriano has nine prior arrests on his record. The most recent was in 2016 for criminal possession of a controlled substance. His other charges included resisting arrest, criminal sale of a controlled substance and assault, police sources said.

Justin Soriano, 40, was picked up at a Bronx home by the borough’s Warrants Squad in connection to the slaying of Shanice Young, 31, at West 128th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard around 1 a.m. Sunday, the sources said.

He was taken to Harlem’s 32 Precinct, where charges are pending, according to the sources.

Soriano was chasing around Young’s current boyfriend when she tried to intervene in the fight, cops said.

Young, who was eight months pregnant with her second child, was shot once in the head and later pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said.

Her unborn baby did not survive, cops said.
