Two Clermont County parents are facing charges in connection with their 4-year-old daughter's death early last year, court filings show.
Christopher Hoeb, 52, and Tamara Banks, 40, were indicted Thursday on charges of murder, involuntary manslaughter and endangering children, according to documents filed in Clermont County Common Pleas Court.

Karmity Hoeb died at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center on Jan. 25, 2022, according to the Hamilton County Coroner's Office.

The Clermont County Prosecutor's Office said in a release Friday that the girl's death was as a result of diabetic ketoacidosis − a life-threatening complication of diabetes most common among those with type 1.
Her diabetes was left undiagnosed and untreated, prosecutors said.

Hoeb and Banks found Karmity unresponsive on Jan. 21, 2022, and they called 911, the release states. She was taken to the hospital for treatment but was later determined to be brain dead.

The young girl was taken off life support just a few days later.
Karmity suffered neglect and abuse for the majority of her life, prosecutors say, and her parents denied her proper nutrition and medical care.

She was fed mostly Mountain Dew through a baby bottle, prosecutors said, adding that by the time she died, the child had no teeth left inside her mouth.

These people came into parenthood at the ages of 48 and 36, respectively. For an adult over 35 to think you raise a child on Mountain Dew has got to require some form of intellectual disability. Social workers should have been following these people around like a dog follows a toddler with a fistful of animal crackers.

I used to work at a restaurant near PepsiCo headquarters, the employees would come in and order cokes (gasp!) and told me that you can get free Pepsi on the premises, it’s in all the vending machines and it’s just readily available. Same with Sierra Mist, root beer and whatever water brand they own. The only soda that was not provided to the employees was Mountain Dew because it’s literally poison. They were like well we have to pay for their health insurance let’s not give them this one beverage we market and sell to the masses because we are fully aware of how terrible it is. I also once bartended a corporate event for PepsiCo and I had to make margaritas with Mountain Dew it was a crime.

You've made a powerful and dangerous enemy @Alxprkrkrls!
@Sejanus loves Mountain Dew.

I've been diabetic for so long I don't even like the taste of something that is full sugar anymore, tho I'd rather have a little bit of the real thing than something that is 3x as big made from that artificial shit. It just tastes bad, all of them do, even the ones that say tastes like real sugar, it does not.

It was my birthday yesterday (65) and my younger son's girlfriend made me a keto birthday cake and it was pretty good. She did a very good job. It wasn't real sweet, and I could eat a moderate size piece and it didn't raise my blood sugar at all.

I love my keto diet, I've lost nearly 30lbs and I haven't exercised at all and I really don't feel I've missed out on anything. It's the easiest diet I've ever been on and I've been on many, I've never lost weight before either, my A1C has been as low as 5.8, right at the moment it's 6.3, but thanksgiving is not keto and neither is Christmas, but I will start cutting it back again at the New Year. Now if they can just come up with something for my kidneys, I will be back as healthy as I was 30 years ago.

I’m not diabetic, but Hubby was. Unfortunately, he had a huge sweet tooth and couldn’t pass up cakes and cookies and pies.
He did drink diet soda though, and I got used to that. I guess it’s just as bad for you as the non-diet stuff.

He was never on a keto diet, but he was on GOLO for a while and it did wonders for his A1C.

Cubby, congrats on your weight loss and all the progress you’ve made! You go, girl!

Does she have a gold tooth?
I kinda thought she did, but I’m not sure.

Forgot to say happy belated birthday @cubby!

A parent pleaded guilty to one charge in the death of her 4-year-old daughter that the Clermont County prosecutor said was brought on by being denied proper nutrition and medical care.
Tamara Banks pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the 2022 death of her daughter.

In Late July of 2023, Tamara Banks and Christopher Hoeb were indicted for murder, involuntary manslaughter, and two counts of child endangering, according to Clermont County Prosecutor Mark Tekulve. Hoeb is scheduled to appear in court on April 10.

The murder and child endangering Banks was indicted for were dismissed, the judge announced.
Tamara Banks and Hoeb, the girl’s sole caretakers, found her unresponsive on Jan. 21, 2022, and called 911, according to the release.

The prosecutor’s office said medics were able to revive the 4-year-old, but she remained unresponsive.

Tekulve said she was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and was ultimately determined to be brain dead.

The girl, referred to as “K.H.” in the press release from the prosecutor’s office, was taken off life support on Jan. 24, 2022, and passed away.
“Due to the neglect and abuse by her parents, K.H. suffered for a majority of her short life,” Tekulve said.

He said Tamara Banks and Hoeb fed the 4-year-old mostly Mountain Dew through a baby bottle and, as a result, her teeth rotted, and she had almost none left.

The coroner ruled her cause of death as diabetic ketoacidosis.

“Essentially, K.H. had diabetes that was left undiagnosed and untreated over a long period of time.” the prosecutor said.
Jerry Banks is Tamara Banks’ oldest son. He says a similar situation happened to his brother in 2011.

“One day, he just went lethargic and wouldn’t move and the only thing he would respond to was sugar and for 36 hours, she [Tamara Banks] passed out in the back room,” said Jerry Banks. “I had to wake her up and force her to take him to the hospital and that’s when he was found to be in DKA; The same thing that happened to [K.H.]. The doctors just so happened to catch it in time to save him.”
Jerry Banks says he never got the chance to meet his 4-year-old sister as she was kept away from other family members.

As for what he’d say to his mother if given the chance: “I don’t think I have words. I don’t think she deserves words to be honest.”

A man accused of killing his four-year-old daughter pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter on Thursday in Clermont County Common Pleas Court.

Christopher Hoeb, 53, is expected to be sentenced on June 11. Clermont County Common Pleas Court Judge Haddad says there is a recommended sentence of 7-10.5 years in prison.
