A Moberly man faces a felony charge after allegedly striking a 10-month-old girl with a cellphone and metal toolbox, causing serious injuries.

Zachary Mohr, 23, was charged with child abuse or neglect involving serious emotional or physical injury.

Moberly police were contacted by the Randolph County Children’s Division regarding a child abuse hotline case. Around that time, a 10-month-old girl was treated in critical condition at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital after being transported via helicopter from Moberly Regional Medical Center, according to a police report.

A physician at Moberly Regional diagnosed the child with intracranial hemorrhaging, a cervical fracture, a concussion and non-accidental trauma, according to court documents.

The girl was left in Mohr’s care Saturday evening. The mother buckled the child into her carseat in the backseat of Mohr’s car before he left, according to court documents.

Mohr reportedly told the mother that he had tried to give the child a bottle in her carseat while he was driving. He said the carseat flipped onto the floor after he lost control of his vehicle and drove into a ditch, according to court documents.

He reportedly blamed the mother for not properly buckling the carseat, though she disputed that claim.
Mohr reportedly told the mother that the girl was “fine” and to just keep her awake for a couple hours, according to court documents.

After picking her child up, the mother claimed she had small pupils, was “moaning and groaning” and acting strange. Soon after noticing the child’s behavior, the mother brought her to the Moberly Regional emergency room and she was transported to the St. Louis Children’s Hospital via helicopter.
In an interview with police, Mohr reportedly admitted that he got angry with the child’s continual crying and struck the girl numerous times with items, including a cellphone and metal tool box.

He told police initially threw his phone at the child in a fit of rage, which hit her in the head. Mohr reportedly maintained his claim that his car ran into a ditch, causing the girl’s carseat to flip. He told officers that he took the girl out of the carseat and placed her on a blanket outside. In another fit of rage, he threw a toolbox backwards, which struck the girl, he reportedly told officers.

Mohr admitted that he delayed seeking medical treatment for the girl because he thought he would get in trouble, according to court documents. The alleged incident happened at around 8 or 9 p.m. Saturday, Mohr told officers. The girl did not receive medical attention until around 11:30 p.m. that night.

After the alleged incident, Mohr brought the child to another person’s house. The witness reportedly told police that the baby had several “bumps” on its face.

Mohr reportedly messaged the mother saying that he would see her in 10 to 15 years, because he would be blamed for the incident, the documents state.

A Moberly man who is facing child abuse and harrassment charges, and was also recently senteced to seven years in prison for a parole violation, is facing another felony charge after allegedly having sex with a minor.

Zachary Mohr, 23, appeared in court for arraignment on a charge of second-degree statutory rape. The charge, which was filed the same day, adds to a list of five pending criminal charges, including felony charges of child abuse involving serious physical injury, as well as first-degree harassment and misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree domestic assault and second-degree property damage.
On Nov. 20, two days after the child abuse charge was filed against Mohr, Moberly police made contact with a 16-year-old girl who claimed she and Mohr had been involved in a secret relationship for several months. She allegedly told police that her and Mohr had engaged in several sex acts since June, charging documents state.

Police obtained copies of several phone conversations that Mohr and the girl had while he was in the Randolph County Jail for the child abuse and harassment charges. Based on how the two talked to each other on the phone, it was clear they were romantically involved, police reported in the probable cause statement.
The girl told Mohr on the phone that she thought investigators were trying to gather information to charge him with as many cases as possible to extend his prison sentence, the documents state.
A Moberly man accused of abusing a 10-month-old child, who had to be airlifted to a St. Louis children’s hospital, will have to defend his case from prison after he was sentenced to seven years Wednesday for violating his probation on a 2015 assault conviction

Zachary Mohr, 23, will serve seven years in the Missouri Department of Corrections for violating his probation on a 2015 second-degree assault charge, which is unrelated to his two pending felony charges of child abuse involving serious physical injury and first-degree harassment and two misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree domestic assault and second-degree property damage.

Mohr appeared in court Wednesday for a probation status hearing. He requested that his five-year probation term from the 2015 assault be reinstated despite having failed to report to his parole officer twice and being charged with two felonies while on probation. Mohr’s attorney, Randolph County Public Defender Edward Guinn, argued that Mohr was not provided adequate programs to help rehabilitate him while on probation. He cited a period of homelessness and unemployment for Mohr while he was on probation.

“None of this was ever intentional,” Mohr told Presiding Circuit Judge Scott Hayes while arguing his probation should be reinstated.

Mohr argued that him being homeless made it hard to keep up with his probation and that he wanted a chance to prove he can be a productive member of society.

Randolph County Prosecuting Attorney Stephanie Luntsford pointed out a number of violations that Mohr incurred while on probation, including failure to report with his parole officer and four criminal charges.

″[Mohr] was not doing well on probation already,” Luntsford said. “It’s very clear that probation is really not an option at this point.”

I can tell it’s the Moberly I know from the piss poor writing in a newspaper and the two shining examples of their citizens.

Wonder if the baby was left with any lifelong disabilities? Cause everyone knows that to make a person-baby or otherwise-stop crying, you hurt them. :penguin:

Zachary Mohr, 25, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for causing serious physical injuries to his ex-girlfriend’s baby.
The abuse happened in November 2019 when Mohr was watching the 10-month girl for her mother. The mother told police she became suspicious there was a problem after receiving strange text messages from Mohr.

Court records state the girl suffered numerous injuries, including a brain hemorrhage, concussion, and a spine fracture.

Mohr later told police he was frustrated with the baby because she wouldn’t stop crying so he struck her numerous times with various items, including a metal tool box.
