A Marrero woman was arrested on suspicion of murdering her 3-month-old daughter after the child's autopsy revealed she had ingested a fatal amount of meth.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office arrested 31-year-old Autumn Blansett on a charge of second-degree murder.

On Dec. 11, homicide detectives were alerted about the results: the baby had a lethal dose of meth in her system when she died and her death was ruled a homicide.

Blansett was interviewed shortly after the coroner's findings were released, and admitted to breast-feeding the child after using meth and marijuana.

A search warrant was issued for her house, and detectives found small amounts of both drugs in the home.

Interesting charge. The act of breastfeeding by a drug addict as murder. I wonder if this is new to the legal system.

Although I wonder if the truth has been told, and maybe the baby got the meth a different way. Such as dosed directly by the methy mother.

The mother of a 3-month-old girl from Marrero, who died in 2020 of a drug overdose, has plead guilty to a lesser charge.

Autumn Blansett initially faced a second-degree murder charge in the death of her daughter Maddalynn.

Officials said Blansett admitted to using methamphetamine intoxication and marijuana before breastfeeding the baby.
On Monday, Blansett plead guilty to negligent homicide charges. A judge sentenced her to five years in prison.
