Before he goes to trial to dispute a murder accusation, a Corpus Christi man is requesting to have his face tattoos removed, according to KIII report.

Joseph Tejeda, who is facing the death penalty for the death of Breanna Wood, made his request through his attorneys in a hearing on Thursday.

Tejeda, 27, has several tattoos on his face, including on his hairline, above each eyebrow, on his left cheek, and on his chin.

His attorneys asked District Judge Jack Pulcher if he would allow them to hire a cosmetologist to remove the tattoos, according to the TV station.

Pulcher denied the request, according to the report, and told the attorneys he'll consider the issue after they become certified to defend a capital murder suspect. The judge also rejected attorney requests to lower his $1,000,000 bond or allow him out of jail.

Tejeda was initially indicted on murder, but was re-indicted in December on capital murder. He's also charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse.

Wood, 21, went missing in October of 2016 after she was last seen with Tejeda in a convenience store, authorities said.

After getting tips from Nueces County Jail inmates, Corpus Christi police found Wood's body stuffed in a box near an abandoned trailer in Robstown, officials said.

One inmate reportedly told police Tejeda told him he shot Wood in the back of the head, broke her arms and had sex with her corpse.

this was up here somewhere as we discussed it, not sure if it had it's own thread because of the murder as the tat thing is a non issue not worth a thread

Misleading title. No where in the story does it say they want them paid for by "us". The attorney's just want the judge to allow them (the attorney's) to hire a cosmetologist. No big deal.

I think that tax payers foot the bill for medical procedures while incarcerated. (Remember the sex change dude)

Had the the judge allowed it, and if these are state appointed public defenders, it would have indeed been public tax dollars paying for the removal.

It doesn’t appear, from just a quick, cursory search, that he’s hired private counsel.

So yep! The fine citizens of the state Texas would’ve footed the bill. However, thankfully, this judge has a brain.

Tejeda writes in the letter that he would be "willing to to accept any reasonable restrictions to afford me the opportunity to hug his mother and father."

The prisoner states the separation has caused "surmounted (sic) stress on my father and mother as well as myself."

The notice was received and filed by the District Clerk's office on Jan. 26.

Nearly seven years after her death, Joseph Tejeda pleaded guilty to the murder of Breanna Wood.
During a Monday hearing, Tejeda pleaded guilty to murder, burglary with the intent of aggravated robbery, and assault on a public servant.
The plea agreement includes 25 years for murder, 20 years for burglary, and 20 years for assault of a public servant.
These sentences are to run concurrently and he receives credit for time served, meaning he could spend 18 years in prison.

The state also agreed to dismiss Tejeda's charge of evading arrest in a motor vehicle and dismiss the charge of tampering with evidence against Tejeda's mother, Rosalinda Musella.
Fallon Wood, Breanna Wood's mother, choked back tears as she spoke during Monday's hearing, saying she would never forgive Tejeda.

"I had to put my anger and hate aside," Fallon Wood said as she addressed Tejeda. "This plea deal was not for you. This was for Breanna. Finally to let her soul be at peace and rest."
Wood was reported missing by her mother Fallon Wood, on October 18, 2016. After a tip from a Nueces County Jail inmate, authorities found her body in a box wrapped in plastic at an abandoned house off State Highway 666 and State Highway 1833.

Tejeda, Wood's ex-boyfriend, was arrested and charged with capital murder.
According to a police report, an inmate claimed Tejeda told him he shot Wood in the back of her head, broke both her arms, and abused her corpse after she was dead.

An autopsy corroborated those claims.
