A Detroit substitute gym teacher has been restricted from finding another job as an educator after she hurled a hockey stick at an 11-year-old girl while targeting another student in a fit of anger.
Jacqueline Brown was sentenced Thursday to two years’ probation for throwing the metal stick and hitting Cha’Kyra Thomas instead of another child at the Hope Academy elementary school in May 2022, Fox 2 reported.

“She was yelling and doing some cussing,” Cha’Kyra told the news outlet. “The next thing I know, I feel something hard on the side of my head.”

Cha’Kyra suffered head trauma and received staples at a hospital for a wound.
Brown pleaded no contest Thursday to a charge of child abuse, which is treated as an admission of guilt.

As part of a plea agreement, she was ordered to attend anger management classes, according to the outlet. She also can’t work in an educational position unless approved by the court.
The family is suing Brown, the school and the staffing company that placed the teacher, attorney Jon Marko told Fox 2.

“Her excuse was she was trying to throw the hockey stick at another kid, and hit her by accident,” he said.

“When the mother of this little girl gets to the school and is wondering, ‘Where is my daughter?’ they couldn’t even find her,” Marko said. “She was found wandering the hallways confused with blood running down her face.”
