Calvin Hinton, 35, was charged with aggravated kidnapping and theft of property after taking his daughter from her mother’s house along with a school laptop and two school tablets in spite of lacking custody or visitation rights.
On September 12th, Officers were dispatched to an aggravated kidnapping call. The officers spoke with Lakeisha Coleman who stated that the father of her child, Calvin Hinton, took their 2-year-old daughter while she was at work. Lakeisha advised that Calvin had also taken a Shelby County School, Hewlett Packard laptop valued at $500, and two Shelby County School, Microsoft tablets valued at $500 dollars as well. The total value of the items totaled to $1,500. According to Lakeisha’s 16-year-old son, one of the young children let Calvin into the residence and the boy saw him leave with his sister and the items.
Calvin sent a text message to Lakeisha stating that he was going to kill his daughter and himself. Lakeisha advised officers that Calvin did not have custody or visitation rights to their daughter and that she did not give him permission to take their daughter or the equipment from her home.
Officers found Calvin with the toddler who was sleeping in the back seat in his vehicle at a Home 1 Extended Stay.
