The family of a 1 year little girl injured is asking the public for prayers after she was found unconscious and unresponsive at the Latitude Apartments shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday afternoon

When police and medics arrived on the scene they found 1 year old Jesselle Lopez not breathing and unconscious. Jesselle Lopez was rushed to a local hospital while paramedics performed CPR.

According to police, they are investigating the incident as a injury of a child and more charges may brought on the male subject who was arrested at the scene. During the incident, police found another child inside of the apartment unit around the age of 3.

As for the condition of baby Jesselle Lopez, her aunt, Samantha Perales says that Jesselle’s heart stopped and doctors have placed her on a ventilator. The injuries of the child consists of a fractured skull and cut on the leg. The Lopez family is asking for prayers from the community.

The aunt also says that the mother has kept the biological father from the child and that her father is currently out of state on a job site and is working feverishly to get on a plane back to Corpus Christi.

The male subject arrested by police for injury of a child hasn’t been disclosed by police but the aunt says the man goes by the name of Mark Anthony Hernandez.

According to the father, Jesse Lopez, his daughter, 1 year old Jesselle Lopez, who sustained severe injuries from her mothers boyfriend has passed away at Driscoll Children’s Hospital at 8:07 p.m. Wednesday after being on life support for more than 48 hours.

Today, Jesse Lopez in an exclusive interview says the mother has not let him see his two children for over two months and still has Jaselle’s Easter baskets at home. Lopez in tears says that doctors have notified him that there was no brain activity. Hours later the family decided to take Jasselle off life support where she passed away at 8:07 p.m. Wednesday. A Go Fund Me account was made on behalf of the family.

Mark Hernandez, 31, was initially arrested and charged with injury to a child. The charge was upgraded to capital murder after the child died.

If convicted, capital murder is punishable by life in prison or death penalty.

Hernandez was booked into Nueces County Jail. His bond is set at $1,030,000.

23-year-old Briana Garcia. was arrested on June 9. KRIS 6 news learned the reason for the arrest Thursday.

Garcia was interviewed by investigators and was later transported to the City Detention Center for processing. Her bond is set at $500,000 bond.

A plea deal has been reached in the May 2021 death of a 1-year-old child in Corpus Christi.

Mark Anthony Hernandez pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of injury to a child by omission, a third-degree felony. Hernandez received deferred adjudication for a period of 10 years and 300 hours of community service. He is also prohibited from having any contact with the victim's family and has waived his right to seek a new trial.
