A man who admitted laughing while his girlfriend repeatedly burned her year-old son with a cigarette has had no luck convincing a state appeals court that his prison sentence is too long.

Instead, in an opinion by Judge Maria McLaughlin a Superior Court panel rejected Enrique Soto’s appeal, thereby upholding his 38- to 76-month jail term.

As McLaughlin noted, Soto admitted in court that he laughed as Anna Russell burned her son at least 15 times with a lighted cigarette at her Pittsburgh home in 2015.

McLaughlin found that Soto had fumbled his appeal because he didn’t take the proper steps to legally preserve his argument that his sentence was excessive. Russell was sentenced to 1 to 2 years in prison after pleading guilty to assault and other counts, court filings show.

Yet, even if Soto has properly crafted his appeal, “we would reject it,” McLaughlin wrote. She found that Soto’s “bald claim” that his sentence is excessive and his argument that he was unfairly punished more harshly than Russell “entitles him to no relief.”

A woman has been sentenced for burning her 2-year-old son with cigarettes while her boyfriend watched and laughed.

Judge David Cashman told Anna Russell, 19, her case still haunts him before sentencing her to two years in jail and five years probation. She has already spent 13 months in jail.

“That means Judge Cashman will supervise probation, as a condition of her release she has to participate in what we call justice related services, its a mental health treatment,” defense attorney Veronica Brestensky said.

In a tearful statement, Russell said she wasn’t ready to be a parent at the time and she realizes that a mother must always protect her children.

Her boyfriend, Enrique Soto, 26, actually received more jail time: three to six years in prison and five years probation after his release.

The victim’s sister told a case worker: “My mom burned my brother with cigarettes.” She also said her mother’s boyfriend, Soto, “laughed the whole time and said ‘he is still alive.’”

On Aug. 8, the 2-year-old boy’s grandmother took him to Children’s Hospital because she was concerned about scabs from wounds all over his body.

The doctor at Children’s Hospital found at least 15 discrete wounds across the toddler’s face, chest, neck, back, left arm, left hand and on both legs.

Although he is a piece of shit it is pretty fucked up that the man who laughed got more time than the mother who burned her own child.

She said she was not ready to be a mother but the boy had an older sister so she is full of shit and got away with abusing the baby.

You don’t have to be ready to be a mom to not think it’s ok to burn a baby for fun. Sick sadistic bitch. Hope they lost rights to those kids.

So agree with the ready to be a parent. Seriously, birth control options are so widely & easily available & quite easily found for low to no costs. The bitch was not fit to be a mom for sure, obviously being too fucking stupid to contribute anything but idiocy into the gene pool & she proved it by at least 2 pregnancies and maybe more ended worth miscarriage or abortion.

And still, even people who hate kids & all associated parenting do not intentionally torment them. That was done cuz she's a stupid & cruel hag.

I have no issues with the bf's sentence but do think it's a travesty that she wasn't sentenced more severely.
