A Stockton father was convicted for his infant son's death in 2020 after inflicting violent abuse on the child, the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office said.
Emiliano Garcia died on Nov. 14, eight days before he would have been 3 months old.
Days before his death, the DA's office said Emiliano was diagnosed with thrush. That night, his father Mathew Garcia violently abused him, and craniocerebral trauma led to Emiliano's death.
Officials said 28-year-old Garcia's actions included violently shoving a bottle in Emiliano's mouth, shaking him, kicking him and throwing him into a bathtub.
The Stockton Police Department said the abuse happened at the family’s home on the 2600 block of East Marsh Street.
The DA's office said Emiliano was "subjected to a life of pain rather than the nurturing environment every child deserves."
Garcia was convicted of child abuse resulting in death, child abuse with great bodily injury and a misdemeanor count of child abuse.
