A Sharpes woman smoked heroin and fell asleep in her living room — and a young child in her care got into her narcotics and had to be revived with Narcan to prevent an overdose, an arrest affidavit said.

Ashlee Roush, 30, was charged with felony child abuse.

Roush put the child to bed in an unsecured crib, then returned to the living room and smoked heroin using a straw and tin foil, the affidavit said.

After she woke up, Roush found the child "in a very sleepy state" with labored breathing — and her straw was on the ground, within the child's reach. She tried to wake up the child, without success. Then she pleaded with a witness not to call 911, the affidavit said.

Brevard County Sheriff's Office and Brevard County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the scene. A deputy administered Narcan nasal spray on the child, who became responsive.

During the arrest, deputies found an empty ziplock baggie in Roush's bra. The baggie tested positive for methamphetamine, the affidavit said.

Meth to maintain appearances? Hmmmm
@LatiDaahh be up normal hours .. be able to go to work NOT nodding out, shop, family, kids .. in my NA meetings .. people with longer term heroin addictions talk about it a lot .. we have a lawyer and a doctor that attend part of their requirements to maintain a license and they express .. meth was the only thing that "balanced" the equation ..
