A 3-month-old boy is fighting for his life after allegedly being abused by his father.

The boy's father, 21-year-old Deion Reed, was arrested by Oklahoma City police.

“It appears that male abused the child at the point of nearly killing him,” said MSgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department.

“It is shocking, and certainly something, we as community members, don't want to see in our community,” said Jennie Hill, Executive Director with CASA Oklahoma County.

The baby is currently in the hospital where doctors say he is clinging to life.

“The child, sadly, is in very critical condition with life-threatening injuries,” Knight said.

“Investigators went to the scene, they spoke to doctors, and doctors indicated this was not an accident. This was an intentional act that injured a child,” Knight said.

According to a probable cause affidavit, investigators say Reed admitted to running the child's head into the door, and "tossed" the baby across the bed and into a wall.

Now, Reed is in the Oklahoma County jail charged with two counts of child abuse.

"Child abuse and neglect is not something that is new to Oklahoma,” said Hill.

Reed is being held without bond.

A 21-year-old father could face a murder charge after his 3-month-old son, who was hospitalized with injuries related to child abuse, died Monday.

On March 27, Dexter Reed was taken in critical condition to the Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center, where doctors told police he had “non-accidental impact to the front and back of his head” and bruising could be seen. Dexter died from his injuries on Monday, police reported.

During an interview with police, Deion Michael Reed, the boy’s father, said he was the only one in the apartment with Dexter and reportedly told different stories about how the injuries occurred. He later told an investigator he would tell “the truth,” about what happened, according to an affidavit.

A woman tearfully recalled for a jury Tuesday how she dressed her 3-month-old son and held him for the final time before doctors took him off life support.

Dexter Reed's brain no longer functioned, the result of "abusive head trauma," a prosecutor told jurors. The infant's organs had shut down.
"They said it would be inhumane to make him live like this," Courtney Ann Aaron testified. "I decided I didn't want to see him like that anymore."

The baby died in her arms, she said.
Aaron, 23, told Assistant District Attorney Gayland Gieger she didn't want to believe her boyfriend, who is on trial for the death, could have inflicted such trauma on their son. In fact, Aaron admitted to lying to police about Deion Reed's temper because "I wanted to protect him."

Reed, 23, is charged with first-degree murder. He's also charged with two counts of felony child abuse, accused of inflicting previous rib and leg fractures.
Dexter Reed was taken in critical condition to the Children’s Hospital at OU Medical Center, where doctors told police he had "non-accidental impact to the front and back of his head" and bruising could be seen. Dexter died from his injuries about two weeks later.

During an interview with police, Deion Reed said he was frustrated that his son was crying and would not settle down and at one point "ran (the boy’s) head into the door." Reed said he didn’t notice any marks on the boy’s head and continued to grow more frustrated as the boy kept crying.

Demonstrating with a doll during an interview, Reed said he "tossed" Dexter across a bed and into a wall. An investigator said the doll hit the wall "with a significant amount of force," according to the affidavit.

A mistrial has been declared in the murder trial of a man accused of killing his 3-month-old son.

The jury was deadlocked on Saturday, resulting in a mistrial.

Defense attorneys for Reed thanked the jury for their “hard work.”

However, prosecutors say it isn’t over, and they will re-try Reed on the murder charge

What a darling cute little boy! Stolen by a vile evil monster is the smile and light in his eyes! Did he expect to comfort him with a bash to the head ? Women , choose wisely , by the mums admission , he had trouble controlling his temper! Another easily irritated fool, useless, good for nothing git!

God help you if I’m on the jury for your child abuse case. Sorry, but even if Jesus himself comes to your defense, I’m going with the “likely” evidence. I won’t even care if you actually did it-if you were there, you’re just as guilty.
