Daniel Rick is accused of child enticement and causing a child to expose their pubic area.
According to court documents, on Nov. 15, child protective services reported Daniel Rick to the Thiensville Police Department, citing an allegation of "inappropriate contact with a boy student."
Police say two days later, on Nov. 17, Rick resigned from his positions at the school.
A parent shared a school email from November with WISN 12 News that said Rick's departure was "a result of personal reasons that require his focus and attention."
Prosecutors said the 36-year-old would have a child sit on his lap, touch his stomach, and kiss the child's head.
According to court documents, one child's parents met with Rick in January 2024 to "raise concerns about appropriate boundaries and physical contact." The parents told police Rick seemed to justify his behavior and said, "I compare it to the story in the Bible and Jesus saying, 'Let the little children come to me.'"
The same month, the criminal complaint says Rick pulled down a student's pants in his classroom. The child told investigators Rick asked to see him after school. The 10-year-old boy went to Rick's classroom, where he told the boy how his athletic ability matched the seventh and eighth graders. The boy said Rick closed the classroom door before pulling the boy's pants down.
During an interview with investigators, Rick "claimed that he did not initiate the physical contact and that it was always the students who started it."
Rick let police search his phone and, according to prosecutors, admitted to viewing pornography involving younger males.
Thiensville teacher accused of child enticement
Prosecutors say Daniel Rick, 36, resigned from his positions as athletic director, teacher, following allegations of inappropriate contact with students.
A criminal complaint accuses Rick of picking "favorite" boy students each year and having some of them sit on his lap, where he would touch their stomachs or rub their backs and kiss them.
One student told Thiensville police he later told the student he had to stop because he "could lose his job or go to jail."
The complaint adds that when parents met with Rick to discuss his behavior in January 2024, Rick "quickly broke into tears" then tried justifying his actions with a comparison to Jesus, saying, "Let the little children come to me."
Last month, detectives learned of even worse accusations, dating back to January 2024.
A student told police Rick asked him to come to his classroom after school.
According to prosecutors, Rick compared the boy's athletic abilities to older students, then pulled the boy's pants down to "see his pubic hair."
Rick's accused of later kissing the boy on the cheek and instructing him not to tell anyone because he "didn't want to get in trouble."
