A Casper woman charged with 15 counts related to minor sexual abuse and incest accepted a plea deal in Natrona County District Court that dismisses all but two charges.
Linda Reed pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy — one for incest and one for third-degree sexual abuse of a minor. According to the provisions of the deal, she will serve four to eight years in prison, with a cold plea that would allow prosecutors to void the deal if she violates the law at any point.
Reed admitted to conspiring with her husband, Thomas, to repeatedly abuse a person who was born in 2003. The incidents cited in the case took place between 2017 and 2020, according to an affidavit. Her husband faces the same charges.
Court documents describe both Reed and her husband forcing the victim to perform sexual acts, submit to penetration, watch pornography and take illicit photographs on multiple occasions. In an interview with investigators, Linda said that the couple’s “cardinal rule” was that both of them had to be present for any sexual contact with the victim.
All but two charges dismissed in minor sexual abuse plea deal
Linda Reed pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy — one for incest and one for third-degree sexual abuse of a minor.
The couple has been married for 43 years, according to interviews with authorities.
The victim alleged Thomas Reed had, on several occasions, forced her to participate or receive various forms of sexual stimulation and had encouraged her to watch pornography with him, according to the affidavit. She told police that Linda Reed had also performed sex acts on her without consent and had purchased lingerie for her so that Thomas could take pictures of her in it, documents show.
A police search of the Reeds’ home found a camera and lingerie, as well as condoms, sex toys and DVDs of pornography described by the victim, the affidavit states.
Thomas Reed first told detectives that the victim had never seen his penis, alleging that the incidents had been initiated by the victim coming on to him, according to the affidavit. Later, he recounted several instances of forced sexual acts involving him, his wife and the victim.
Linda Reed initially denied in an interview with authorities that either adult had had any sort of sexual contact with the victim but admitted to several instances of abuse in a later conversation, documents allege. Reed claimed she had memory loss which may interfere with her ability to recall the abuse. She also told detectives that their “cardinal rule” was that both adults must be present for any sexual contact.
Both Reeds told authorities they believed the victim was mentally troubled in her early teen years and claimed she was looking for attention, according to the documents.
