Colorado investigators arrested a 23-year-old woman after they found her dead infant with the umbilical cord still attached to it in the backyard of a home, it was reported on Wednesday.
Camille Wasinger-Konrad is being held without bond and could face a first-degree murder charge, according to Douglas County deputies.
Authorities on Tuesday night received a 911 call from a witness who said they saw what looked like a lifeless baby in the backyard of a home in Highlands Ranch,
The Denver Post reported.
The official cause of the baby’s death has yet to be determined by the Douglas County Coroner’s Office.
The sheriff’s office has recommended that Wasinger-Konrad be charged with first-degree murder.
Authorities have yet to say whether the mother lived in the home where the baby was found.
Investigators are also not revealing the baby's gender.
Under Colorado’s so-called ‘safe haven law,’ any parent wishing to give away their infant child may do so within 72 hours of giving birth – as long as the baby has not been harmed.
Parents who fail to meet the 72-hour deadline are at risk of being charged with abandonment.
