An Augusta firefighter is charged with murder in the death of a toddler.

According to a release from the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, On May 1, Charles Sconyers picked up his girlfriend's 1-year-old son from daycare.

They returned to his girlfriend's home, according to the report, and Sconyers, who has been identified as a Richmond County firefighter says he heard a scream before he found the child face down on the patio.

Sconyers told investigators he gave emergency aid to the child until EMT's arrived.

But the sheriff's office says that's not what happened. They are not releasing what they believe happened or how the child died, but Sconyers is charged with murder.

The boy, according to investigators, was only a few weeks away from turning 2 years old.

A South Carolina firefighter on trial for the murder of a toddler in 2019 took the stand in his own defense on Thursday. It didn’t matter much.

On Friday, Charles Sconyers was found guilty on all counts by Columbia County jurors and has been sentenced to life behind bars.

Sconyers, 34, insisted that he was innocent of murder and cruelty to children charges in the death of 1-year-old Lincoln DaVitte. A jury on Friday found him guilty of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, and two counts each of aggravated assault and cruelty to children in the first degree.

According to Augusta, Georgia-based NBC and CBS affiliates WRDW and WAGT, Sconyers became “emotional” at times during his testimony, particularly when asked by his defense attorney about his relationship with the boy.

“Ultimately, he became my son,” the defendant said.

“And you thought of him that way?” his attorney asked.

“I thought of him that way,” Sconyers replied.

Sconyers, an Augusta firefighter currently on administrative leave, gave roughly an hour’s worth of testimony.

“Did you…hurt Lincoln?” the attorney asked.

“No sir,” the defendant replied. “I would never…I’d never hurt any child.”

Aside from discussing their relationship and providing several direct denials of guilt, Sconyers provided his own account of May 1, 2019, the tragic day the boy died from an unknown injury.

I get these are the lies a person needs to tell themselves but it always makes me wish they would get extra time for the bullshit.

Ah. So it is. Duly noted.
We will strike that from the record and let the description stand at:
Mannequin faced creep

And replace the stricken words
(it's company policy) with:
he’s guilty
Fucking, piece of shit, douche bag

Thank you for your feedback, we strive for accuracy, and appreciate the kind of insider knowledge that only the supporter of a convicted child-murderer can provide.

Sincerely,
A 12-person jury, a Judge, and 99.999% of people who have ever heard of this "bullshit asshole mannequin faced creep [who is a] guilty, fucking, piece of shit, douchebag."
