  • Sarah Vanderbilt (36), Friend/Housemate: Sentenced on September 9, 2024, to 6 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree reckless manslaughter. Current Max Release Date is May 16, 2029
On the day of the child's death, Vanderbilt was found to have a mixture of heroin and fentanyl in her vehicle, which she had used to run errands with the child just hours before the death occurred.

In issuing the sentence, the judge noted that Vanderbilt had safely removed her own child from the home to protect him but allowed the 17-month-old to remain in the dangerous environment. Despite being aware of the child's distressed breathing, Vanderbilt failed to contact police or emergency services.
