On April 16, 2020 at approximately 6:26 p.m. the Laredo Police Department was dispatched to a call of an unknown nature at a residence by Vanessita Court.
Upon arriving at the location, Officers located visible signs of a possible crime scene and it was discovered that members of the family household were missing.
As officers checked the immediate area of the residence they discovered a body and immediately requested assistance from the Criminal Investigative Division. Laredo Police Homicide Investigators arrived at the location and began to investigate the scene. Once a search of the location was carried out, three bodies were discovered in an adjacent lot near the residence. A fourth member of the family, a two year old child, was not immediately found at the location. As the investigation progressed, Investigators developed a person of interest, identified as Samuel Enrique Lopez, age 20. Lopez was located at his residence and brought to LPD headquarters for questioning.
The case led Investigators to a location near 4700 block of Arias where the body of the two year old child was located. As the investigation developed, sufficient evidence was found to charge Samuel Enrique Lopez with Capital Murder of Multiple Persons and Capital Murder of a Person under the age of ten years of age. Texas law defines capital murder as a capital felony offense. If convicted of a capital felony, the options for punishment are life in prison or the death penalty. People sentenced to death for a capital felony face lethal injection. Samuel Lopez was transported to Webb County Jail and held with no bond.
