A Lincoln man has been charged with felony child abuse, after a three-year-old boy allegedly suffered a serious head injury while in his care.
A judge set bond for 24-year-old Allen Anderson at $75,000, and ordered him not to have any contact with the boy.
Anderson called 911 after he says he found the child unresponsive and not breathing after falling in the bathtub during a five minute span when he left the boy unsupervised, according to court documents.
The child was immediately taken to the hospital. Along with a head injury, doctors told police the child had bruising on his face, head, chin, neck, arms, abdomen, buttocks and shins from his knees to his ankles. The boy was then taken to Children's Hospital in Omaha, diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury, and placed in a medically-induced coma, according to an arrest affidavit.
Anderson told investigators the bruising was a result of "play fighting" with his five-year-old son prior to the alleged fall, investigators said in the document. Doctors said the boy's injuries were not consistent with that sort of activity.
Doctors told authorities the boy's prognosis is "poor," with possible permanent right side body paralysis.
