Authorities are searching for two children after finding their mother dead in Loranger early Thursday (June 13) morning.

According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, 35-year-old Callie Brunett was missing for over 24 hours before being found dead in her home. Her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Her two small children, 6-year-old Jalie and 4-year-old Erin are “unaccounted for,” Sheriff Daniel Edwards said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding their whereabouts to call 911 immediately.

UPDATE: The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the recovery of 4-year-old Erin Brunett’s body. Her 6-year-old sister, Jalie Brunett, was found alive. The suspect, Daniel Callihan, was arrested in Jackson, Mississippi.

Police found the six-year-old alive in Mississippi, with Callihan, according to authorities. Erin’s body was a few yards from where her sister was found alive.

The 4-year-old was found in a wooded area near the car driven by Daniel Callihan. Inside the vehicle, officers found the 6-year-old girl alive.
She was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Her grandparents are on their way to Jackson to be with her.

“You don’t want to see that as a police chief; you don’t want to see that as a father,” said Chief Joseph Wade from the Jackson Police Department. “A coward took this child from her family.”
It is unclear what the man’s relation to the victim or the children is.
In a press conference Thursday afternoon, Chief Jimmy Travis says Brunett was reported missing Tuesday and because her car was not at her house, her family did not believe she was home. Thursday morning, her father made entry into her home and discovered her body and her children missing.

The manner of Brunett’s death was not disclosed, but Chief Travis said there was “blood everywhere.”

As Callihan was being escorted by officers from the Jackson Police Department headquarters Friday, a reporter asked him why he allegedly killed the little girl.

“I have no reason for what I did,” Callihan told reporters. He added that he’s been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
Callihan’s alleged accomplice, Victoria Cox, 32, was arrested on Friday at a motel in south Jackson, Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said.

I think the surviving sister was sexually assaulted.
Investigators’ top priority will be to interview Callihan and care for the surviving 6-year-old victim, Travis said.

“She’s been through something that most of us, hopefully, never ever get to experience. And she is going to have to spend the rest of her life living with this,” the chief said.

Here is the gofundme

Calihan said he was sober except for taking Lexapro when he committed the crimes.

“I did it. I have no reason for what I did,” Callihan said. “I am diagnosed multiple personality disorder. I think it was the side effects of the Lexapro.”
Calihan said he was cooperating with the investigation and that he was not going to fight the charges.

“I would kill me. For what I did? Lethal injection is the easiest thing for me,” Callihan said. “I am not pretending to be crazy. I am certified. I have only been out of the nut house for two weeks.”
According to Tangipahoa court records, Callihan has a long criminal history.

Court records show that since 2008, Callihan has been arrested eight times in the parish.

The charges date back to 2008 and range from various felony crimes such as burglary, theft, aggravated battery, simple burglary and simple assault.

A new federal criminal complaint lays out Callihan’s description, in brutal detail, of his alleged crimes.
Callihan allegedly told investigators he had stabbed Callie Brunett approximately 30 times in Loranger and had said he wanted to kill her for some time.

He also allegedly admitted he killed 4-year-old Erin Brunett and decided to keep her older sister as a “sex slave.”

The document suggests the murder of Erin was in Mississippi.

He says he has borderline personality disorder and multiple personality? It sounds like he’s only been officially diagnosed BPD. Borderline is not a mental illness, it is literally just a category of asshole and it can only be cured by introspection, talk therapy and active participation in changing ones behavior. Medications are usually prescribed to help underlying symptoms such as anxiety or depression but do nothing to help BPD. As for the multiple personalities I think we can all call BULLSHIT

Also in the article he admits it was premeditated! Like there goes your insanity defense. I can’t think about the 6yr old witnessing her sister be murdered and being left in a pit. I pray she can triumph over this horror and live a life of peace

D.I.D. (formerly known as multiple personality disorder) & Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) are not the same thing. I have BPD and although have never taken lexapro I am coming off a medication that made my thoughts not my own THAT being said neither DID or BPD leads you to killing a mother kidnapping her children, killing the younger child and trying to traffic the other one. Mental illness is no joke but you can't blame it on your evilness.

It's actually "literally" a legitimate mental illness and specified in the DSM-5. I strongly suspect your little feelings got hurt by a Borderline at some point in time, and therefore you should probably seek therapy for your bruised ego instead of encouraging the negative stigma associated with BPD simply because pinecones like yourself can't wrap your mediocre IQs around a disorder you're extremely fortunate to not suffer with.

YIKES! This pinecone has suffered greatly from the manipulation, gaslighting and abuse of 2 individuals with borderline, it was my therapist who explained borderlines to me. I’m going to stand by my original statement. Based off your aggressive and confrontational comment I suspect you might be an individual with borderline, in which case stop being a victim, take some responsibility for your behavior, and leave me the hell alone.

A 37-year-old man in Louisiana accused of killing a 35-year-old mother in her mobile home, then kidnapping her two young daughters, killing one, will spend the remainder of his life behind bars after pleading guilty to a pair of federal charges.
Daniel Callihan formally pleaded guilty on Wednesday to one count of kidnapping resulting in death and one count of transporting a minor in interstate commerce with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, authorities announced.
Victoria Cox, his girlfriend and alleged co-conspirator in the kidnappings and killings, has been indicted in Mississippi on a capital murder charge, where she may still face the death penalty.
Callihan is scheduled to be formally sentenced on Nov. 19.

Daniel Wayne Callihan pleaded guilty Monday, Sept. 29, in Hinds County Circuit Court to one count of capital murder, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of sexual battery.

Circuit Judge Debra Gibbs sentenced Callihan to life on the capital murder and sexual battery charges and 30 years on each kidnapping charge.

"This is one of the most horrific crimes that I've had to preside over," Gibbs said before sentencing Callihan.
The verdict comes more than a year after Callihan and his alleged accomplice, Victoria Cox, were arrested in connection with the killing of Callie Brunett at her Loranger, Louisiana, home and the kidnapping of Brunett's 4 and 6-year-old daughters — Erin and Jalie.

USA Today reported Callihan had an "on-and-off relationship" with Callie, who was 35 years old.
According to court records, Callihan stabbed Brunett approximately 50 times at her home before taking the girls to Hinds County. The two girls were held in a hotel where they were abused by Callihan and allegedly by Cox. Prosecutors say Erin, the youngest child, was killed crying for her mother.
The sentences in Mississippi will run consecutively to those Callihan receive in Louisiana and on the federal level.

A Hinds County Grand Jury previously indicted Cox for one count of capital murder, one count of kidnapping and one count of sexual battery in connection to the case. Cox pleaded not guilty to all charges. Cox is slated to go to trial Dec. 8 at the Hinds County courthouse.

Prison is too good for him and her-so is the DP. For me only true justice would be served if they spent every day of their lives in pure abject torment, pain, abuse and misery, I want them to SUFFER. yeah yeah we are "suppose" to be better than that, but for "people" like that I am not-they deserve nothing less than horrible suffering.

Their victims suffered and that poor surviving child will suffer from the torturous memories for the rest of her life so why shouldn't they?

A man and woman who allegedly raped a child and kept her captive in a pit with her dead sister may get plea deals.
According to PEOPLE, 34-year-old Victoria Cox, who is accused of assisting a man who killed a woman and abducted her two young daughters, later killing one and keeping the other as a "sex slave," was offered a plea deal from prosecutors during a court appearance on Monday, October 13.
The report states that 37-year-old Daniel Callihan, in a factual basis signed after he pleaded guilty to federal charges, admitted to killing 35-year-old Callie Brunett and kidnapping her two young daughters from Louisiana on June 11, 2024. Callihan also admitted to driving the children to Mississippi the next day, then driving back to Louisiana to pick up Cox, before returning to McComb, Mississippi, per the publication.
Callihan admitted in the factual basis that he and Cox both sexually abused the six-year-old girl before he killed her four-year-old sister "by holding (her) closely against his chest," according to PEOPLE. The children were reported missing after a relative discovered the body of Brunett on June 13, according to the Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
A joint search effort was launched at the local, state and federal level, and the six-year-old girl was located that same day, the publication reported, Authorities found Brunett's car, which Callihan had stolen, parked close to the property that child was being kept, and ultimately found her inside a dirt pit with her deceased sister, per the report.

According to PEOPLE, Cox is not facing federal charges because her alleged crimes were committed in Mississippi, and she agreed to testify at Callihan's trial for prosecutors.

Citing the signed factual basis, the publication reported that Cox corroborated Callihan's account of the sexual abuse against the six-year-old girl in a post-Miranda interview. If she choses not to accept the plea deal, Cox's trial will begin on December 8. Callihan is scheduled to be sentenced on November 19, and prosecutors have agreed not to seek the death penalty so long as he pleaded guilty to all charges, per the publication.

Daniel Callihan received two additional two additional consecutive life sentences in federal court on Wednesday. The new penalties stem from charges that include kidnapping resulting in death and transporting a minor across state lines for sexual activity.

The federal punishment adds to a number of life sentences Callihan has received across multiple states.
In September, Callihan pleaded guilty in Tangipahoa Parish to two counts of first-degree murder for the killings of Callie Brunett and her 4-year-old daughter, Erin. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. A state judge ruled he must first serve that sentence in Louisiana, meaning he will spend the rest of his life at Angola Penitentiary.
Callihan also pleaded guilty to additional charges in Mississippi, including capital murder, two counts of sexual battery and two counts of kidnapping. He was sentenced there to life in prison for the murder and sexual battery charges, plus 30 years for each kidnapping count.

i hope that where ever those 2 will serve their sentence that justice will be done... i.e. kept as sex slaves, beaten, and every possible kind of torture that doesn't include death happens everyday for their lives and that they beg for merci and don't get any ...
