A 17-year-old is back behind bars – accused of rape – just three days after being released on bond in another crime.

Police said D'shawn Garrison grabbed a woman while she was jogging and sexually assaulted her in her front yard.

“A witness was driving by and saw what was going on and intervened. Between the witness and the victim, they were able to hold that male until police arrived and took him into custody,” Chafee said.

On Friday, a judge ordered Garrison to remain in jail, but that wasn't the case earlier in the week.

According to an incident report, Atlanta police arrested Garrison on May 5 after he led police on a chase in a stolen car.

“Officers detained him and took him into custody and during the course of dealing with him that night and processing him, he escaped from their custody,” Chafee said.

Two days later, he bonded out of jail after Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Frazier set bond at $17,500.

But according to Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard, Garrison -- who has racked up more than a dozen prior arrests, including an armed robbery charge as 14-year-old -- should have never gotten out.

I am sure he is a damaged young man who did not have the best upbringing or parental role models.

Having said that he is a danger to the community and has demonstrated that he is unable or unwilling to refrain from criminal activity.

He will graduate to murder before his 18th birthday if he is not held accountable for this rape.

@ghosttruck

I am not condoning what the young man did and believe that he deserves to be behind bars.

I try to be as thoughtful as possible to people who have suffered abuse as children because whether they realize it or not it impacts most aspects of their lives even into adult hood.

Just because someone is abused it does not excuse their actions and how they treat others.

I agree with you...I just find it strange that kids who live through the shit of a bad childhood like I did want to do the same thing. I did the exact opposite...I'd never hit a woman or child, nice guy, coach peewee football etc,,,

It fucking baffles me that people keep the cycle rolling.

PS....you rock, you know I love ya!

@Sugar Cookie .. armed freak’n robbery at 14 years old might have tipped them off this kid was headed barreling down the road in the wrong direction.. maybe?!

@ghosttruck .. I couldn’t agree more .. you want different .. You want more .. you want the boring life everyone takes for granted .. I said “my kids would NEVER” and for the most part I have kept my word

A convicted rapist escaped from a Georgia state prison on Wednesday night, but has now been captured along with two others accused of helping him escape.

D’Shawn Garrison is currently serving a sentence until 2046 for various violent crimes, including the 2019 rape of a woman who was jogging in her northwest Atlanta neighborhood.
Garrison escaped from the Johnson State Prison in Wrightsville, Georgia on Wednesday. The Georgia Department of Corrections along with other agencies put out a “be on the lookout” alert for Garrison, warning the public not to approach him and call 911.
On Thursday morning, Channel 2′s ABC affiliate WJBF reported that Garrison was spotted in Washington Countyand deputies made contact with a car that matched a description of a car in the BOLO.

The TV station reported that a small chase ensued and the car crashed in Hancock County with Garrison and two others ran away from the crash.

Deputies eventually tracked all three of them down.
Garrison entered a guilty plea on rape, aggravated assault strangulation, and battery substantial physical harm charges in March 2022. He was sentenced to 25 years and life on probation, according to Fulton County court records.
