A16-year-old Gordon girl has been charged with murder after she allegedly stabbed a newborn infant, killing it.
The girl has been charged in Sheridan County Court with charges of first-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit, according to court records.
Gordon police were called to a Gordon home on the evening of Nov. 6 after a report that a girl had given birth and the baby was not breathing, according to an arrest affidavit. Police were met at the door by the girl's father, who said the baby had been stillborn and "that it was too late." The officer described entering a bedroom and seeing the girl squatting by the bedroom door and her mother, who was holding an infant wrapped in a towel, crying hysterically.. The mother allegedly kept saying the girl had hurt the baby and told the officer that marks could be seen on the baby.
The officer attempted to render first aid when he observed that the infant's throat had been cut through the windpipe and that the infant had been stabbed several times on the left side of the chest. EMS providers arrived and took over care of the child.
According to statements made by the girls' parents, the teen had gone into the kitchen about an hour prior and had opened a drawer that contained a boning knife. Neither of them had seen her remove the knife, but the officer watched as the parents searched the drawer and found it to be missing.
The girl later told her mother she needed to go to a local store to get some pads because she was experiencing a heavy period flow. A few minutes later, the girl's mother told police, she saw one of the family's dogs go into the girl's bedroom and she reported finding a large amount of blood on the floor and wall. She confronted the girl when she returned to the home 15 to 20 minutes later. The mother said the girl admitted having killed the baby. The woman called her husband, who located the baby, which had been disposed of in a closet.
The girl was transported to Gordon Memorial Hospital and then transferred to Regional West Medical Center by air. She reportedly underwent surgery at the hospital.

The girl's parents allowed police to search the home, finding evidence of blood-soaked clothing and towels and other blood evidence. Police were called back to the home about 11 p.m. after the girl's father reported having found the missing knife in the girl's closet.
The mother said her daughter then admitted to having killed the child, which her father then found disposed of in a closet inside a dog food bag.

The girl was taken to a nearby hospital, before being transported by air to Regional West Medical Center, where she underwent surgery.
The girl, who was arraigned on charges Thursday in Sheridan County Court, has been appointed an attorney and is being held without bond, according to court records.

An arrest warrant for the girl was issued Nov. 7 and returned the next day. She is next scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 16.

A 17-year-old Nebraskan charged as an adult with murdering her newborn son by cutting his throat, stabbing the baby to death, placing the body inside a dog food bag under clothes inside a bedroom closet and then going to the store is looking at two decades to life behind bars after pleading no contest.
Chloe Coplen-Anderson was found guilty of second-degree murder on Tuesday after entering the no contest plea in court as part of a plea agreement, resolving the case that was initially charged as a premeditated first-degree murder committed in the course of felony child abuse and with the use of a deadly weapon, a knife.
When details of the case against then 16-year-old Chloe Coplen-Anderson first emerged, local ABC affiliate NTV said the Gordon Police Department responded to her home after the teen’s parents found a horrific blood-covered scene in their daughter’s bedroom on Nov. 6, 2023, when the deceased newborn’s remains were found in an “empty plastic dog food bag and a trash bag in the teen’s closet covered with clothes” while the defendant was out at a store.
While Coplen-Anderson’s father reportedly believed the newborn had been stillborn, her mother shouted to a responding officer that she, Chloe, “hurt him,” the baby, and that “you can see the marks.”

Authorities reportedly confirmed that the newborn had been stabbed several times and had a cut throat.

Last week, District Judge Travis O’Gorman ordered a 90 day evaluation to determine her capabilities, mental health, and resources that may be available to her with the Nebraska Department of Corrections.

Coplen- Anderson will face a prison sentence ranging from 20 years to life on the Class 1B Conviction when she returns to Sheridan County for sentencing.

I'd feel more sorry for her if she'd just left her baby lying there and walked away, but she took the time to murder him. I always wonder what girls like this think when they are are having a baby worrying that their parents won't accept it or will hate them, or throw them out, what do they expect is going to happen when they kill the baby and then just leave it lying there for their parents to find? Do they think that their parents will just accept it then, since they committed murder?

A Nebraska teenager was sentenced to 35 to 60 years in prison on Thursday, April 24, after pleading no contest to second-degree murder in connection with her newborn's 2023 death.
Chloe Coplen-Anderson, 18, appeared in Sheridan County District Court on Thursday, where Judge Travis O'Gorman handed down the sentence.
Chloe Coplen-Anderson hid her pregnancy and slit her newborn son's throat shortly after giving birth in her bedroom, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by PEOPLE.

An officer with the Gordon Police Department arrived at Coplen-Anderson's home on Nov. 6, 2023, after receiving a report of a teenage girl giving birth to a baby boy who was not breathing, the affidavit states.
The affidavit says that the officer arrived to find Coplen-Anderson's father saying he believed the child had been stillborn and that it was too late to save the baby,
Coplen-Anderson's mother, however, immediately identified her daughter as the baby's killer. At the time, the mother was weeping. She told police her daughter had "hurt him" and noted "marks" where the baby had been stabbed, according to the affidavit.

Both parents told officers they had seen their daughter remove a knife from the kitchen earlier that day. The affidavit notes that the knife was still missing from the drawer when authorities arrived at the home.
Coplen-Anderson's attorney Todd Lancaster tells PEOPLE that Coplen-Anderson had been abused by family members.
Lancaster also said Coplen-Anderson was 15 when she became pregnant with the child, and that the baby's father was 19. Sex between a person who is 19 and an individual who is 15 or younger is considered sexual assault in the state of Nebraska.
The two witnesses called by the defense testified that as a result of the trauma, Coplen-Anderson suffers from multiple mental health conditions, including post-traumatic stress disorder and major depressive disorder.

Lancaster also claimed in court that no adults stepped in to help his client or stage an intervention.
As it now stands, Coplen-Anderson will be at least 51 when she leaves prison, as the judge agreed to give her credit for the more than 500 days she has already been behind bars.

Her attorney says, "Lancaster also claimed in court that no adults stepped in to help his client or stage an intervention." She had a boyfriend, she got pregnant, she hid her pregnancy, and then brutally murdered her newborn. I'd say she was already mentally unstable.

Fuck this broad. Have fun in prison, Goldilocks.
