Three children were struck by a vehicle while crossing the street near 22nd Street and Center Street Thursday evening, Oct. 24, and one died. The striking driver did not stop.

Police said the hit-and-run crash happened around 5:30 p.m. when a driver disregarded a red light. According to police, the crash involved a 10-year-old boy, a 6-year-old girl, and a 4-year-old girl — as well as two vehicles. Officials were not sure if the children were struck by both of the vehicles — but said both vehicles fled the scene.

“It was six kids in all,” said Shanterika Rayford. “Three of them just didn’t make it across the street.”

The 6-year-old girl died. The other two children, including the 6-year-old’s sister and cousin, were seriously hurt.

“I heard a loud ‘boom,'” said Anthony Quin, witness. “Kids were laying in the street, and it was just bad. It was bad.”

“How can you leave an accident like that?” said Quin. “You hit kids and you just leave. Why do you leave?”

two cars , both fled and one or both ran a red light? I almost would rather hear that street justice gets served rather than some liberal judge short sentence.
The Sentencing Reform Act of 1984 took sentencing control away from parole boards (by abolishing federal parole) and handed control over to judges, albeit with mandatory minimum sentences. The bill was passed by a republican majority senate and signed by President Reagan.

Walking home from an after school program? 5:30 isn’t that late for kids to be out.

There were three other kids too so the 10 year old may not even have been the youngest. I agree, 5.30 isn't unreasonable, it would still have been light and if they were just going a short distance I don't have a problem with that. Heck when I was a kid we were out from dawn to dusk and our parents didn't even know exactly where we were half the time.

This is gonna be way off topic but still reguarding comment directed toward topic. Now that ive confused the hell out of you and whoever else is so lucky to stumble upon my dumb ass comment here goes: For some reason it was so hard and awkward for me reading your comment when it said from dawn to dusk. I realized right there that it is literally indoctrined into my head as Dusk to Dawn. Literally I had to go over that part 3 times for how akward it was to me personally. I know I sound like a crazy but I just had to tell you cause it made me laugh. Even after the third time saying from Dawn to Dusk, to satisfy my crazy self I still had to reword it if only in my head as Dusk to Dawn to move on from it. Wow, just wow, I literally tell/say things out loud that no other human being would even notice or know unless said from my own mouth that bust me out or embarass me all the time. I figure without being a on ones self tattle taler (Ive never had to spell that saying hope its spelling is correct) there'd never be that extra ounce of fun in life.
