A janitor at a Missouri high school is accused of sexually abusing a student with Down Syndrome, officials said.

Robert Smith, 50, a custodian with the Rockwood School District in St. Louis County, has been charged with first-degree sexual abuse following accusations that he had inappropriate sexual conduct with the disabled student, according to law enforcement.

Eureka Police Lt. Michael Werges said the alleged victim is a boy younger than 17 years old, and he is a Special School District student.

“We were informed by the Eureka Police Department that a member of our custodial team at Eureka High School has been arrested for sexual abuse,” the Rockwood School District said in a written statement. “This employee has been suspended without pay and is prohibited from being on district property.”

Werges said the school resource officer was notified about the alleged sexual assault on Feb. 11 and police immediately investigated the accusation, and they believe it is credible.

Smith was being held today on a $300,000 cash-only bound, court records show.

Just even worse, if that can be!! The penalty for this should be more severe! I’m glad the child came forward and put a stop to this guy!! He KNEW it was wrong! Who knows how many other children he saved from this creeper! The young child deserves a platinum star for coming forward!

I worked with special needs children - I found DS children were mostly always happy .. very eager to please .. everyone was their friend .. eager to seek validation and approval .. anywhere near puberty and hyper-sexual .. they had not a clue what sex was they just knew it felt good and sex, age, nor relationships (family members) matter ..

I worked at CMH and your description is quite apt.

When I would make a home visit I was always greeted with a wide smile and exuberant hug.

There are monsters and then there are MONSTERS.

king with Down's Syndrome, Henry Vi (1821 - 1471)

In August 1453, Henry VI fell into an inertia that lasted 18 months. Some historians believe he was suffering from catatonic schizophrenia, a condition characterised by symptoms including stupor, catalepsy (loss of consciousness) and mutism. Others have referred to it simply as a mental breakdown.
