A teacher at a high-performing Michigan charter school that emphasizes lessons on moral virtues has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a student — after telling a colleague about the illicit affair, authorities said.
Jocelyn Sanroman, 26, is facing a charge of third-degree sexual conduct with a 16-year-old boy, Click On Detroit reported.

The alleged sexual relationship took place in 2023 while Sanroman was a teacher at Oakside Prep Academy, a charter school in Waterford Township.
She told another teacher that she was having sex with a student, and that coworker informed police, prosecutors said.

A Michigan teacher who admitted to having sex with a student she was tutoring at his house — and videotaping it — is heading to prison.
On Tuesday, April 28, Jocelyn Sanroman, 27, of Pontiac, was sentenced to four to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty in March to third-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to online court records, The Oakland Press and FOX2 Detroit.

In June 2025, Sanroman, then 26, was working as a teacher in Oakland County when she told a colleague she’d had sex with a 16-year-old male student she was tutoring in 2023 while teaching at Oakside Prep Academy in Waterford Township, according to a statement from the Oakland County Prosecuting Attorney.
During Sanroman's sentencing on Tuesday, April 29, her attorney told the judge that unaddressed mental health issues had played a role in her decision making, FOX2 Detroit reported.

"She made a tremendous error of judgment here," her attorney said, per the outlet. "A lot of it has to do with her own mental health issues. She's going to have to undertake that on her own. She understands that, and she's working forward and trying to do her best to become a better person."
Addressing Sanroman, the judge said, "What do you have to say? What were you thinking?"

Sanroman replied, "Not my best thinking.”

Admonishing Sanroman, the judge further said, "This is serious risk-taking behavior, taking advantage of a minor and videotaping. You're having sex with a minor at his home, right? And it's just disgusting."
Sanroman will be registered for life on the Michigan sex offender registry, ClickOnDetroit reported.
