Two people are facing a charge of child abuse after a four-month-old was brought to OU Children's Hospital with fractures, a brain bleed, bruising, and liver and spleen lacerations.
Medical staff told police the child was brought in on March 30 by the parents, Clarissa Skurzewski and Christopher Kelley.
Skurzewski reported that earlier that morning she saw the child experience seizure-like behaviors where his arms were stretched and clenched into fists and his eyes rolled back.
In an interview, Skurzewski admitted she and Kelley forgot to buckle the child into his car seat on March 24 and they had to break hard due to weather and traffic.
Kelley reported the child had been thrown about, but they didn't seek medical attention.
Continue readingIn a second interview, Kelley admitted to having dropped a truck tire on the child.
Kelley said he'd pushed a truck tire into the backseat where the child's car seat was and it hit the 4-month-old's head.
By the time Kelley arrived at his destination, the tire had fallen on top of the child, according to Kelley.
